Hey guys, what's up, Tyler here. And today I'm bringing you guys my review of the Logitech
G710+ Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. And before we get into it, I just wanted to thank you
Logitech for sending this out for review.
The G710+ is one of many keyboards that Logitech offers in it's gaming keyboard series. The
G710+ is a mechanical keyboard that has some pretty quiet keys, backlighting, and 6 programmable
"G- Keys."
So first let's just take a tour of the keyboard itself. Here on the top we have all of our
keys. We have the standard full keyboard with numberpad and the G Keys on the left hand
side. There are memory profile keys on the top, followed by a "Game mode switch" that
prevents the windows key from working, so you don't accidentally press it and go back
to the desktop mid game. On the other side we have our backlight controls, one for our
directional keys, and one for all of the other keys, instant media access and control keys,
a mute button and a volume control wheel.
On the bottom we really don't have anything special but the four rubber feet and two kick
stands, and on the back we have the cable going out, and a USB port. The cabling for
the keyboard is pretty sturdy and actually splits off and takes up two USB ports on your
computer.
There is also an optional palm rest included if you would like to use it.
As far as the build, I would say this keyboard is pretty sturdy. Nothing feels flimsy and
everything works. The backlighting works great and there are actually 4 different levels
of brightness, along with being off, but it doesn't really light up the secondary functions
of the keys very well. For example, the "1" key is very lit up, but the exclamation mark
underneath the 1 key isn't near as bright.
The keys themselves are comfortable to type on and, for a mechanical keyboard, they really
aren't that loud. I have had people comment on my gaming videos asking what keyboard I
have, and when I tell them it's mechanical they are pretty much in shock because they
can barely hear it being used. I find that the keys are nicely spread apart and I haven't
ever pressed more than one key at once accidentally. They just feel evenly spaced and it just works
very well. It did take some time though to get used to the G keys on the side, as at
first they threw off my hand placement and I ended up hitting the G1 key instead of the
Escape key at times, but it didn't take long to get used to.
Now lets talk about software. The Logitech gaming software allows you to change what
the G Keys actually do on different profiles as well as add new profiles that go into effect
once you start playing a game. For example, I can have a certain profile set up to run
once Minecraft starts running, and as soon as I exit, the keyboard reverts back to my
normal settings automatically.
Setting up the G keys is pretty simple, you can drag a command over to the G key from
the left, or click on the G key and bring up a much more detailed window allowing you
to enter in single keys, key combinations, text, or give the keys functions such as opening
up the calculator or browser. If you click on the different keyboard profiles,
you will see that you can change what the G keys do under each profile. The software
can take a little bit to get used to, but after awhile it's easy to manage your way
around and set whatever commands you would like to the different keys.
Overall I think this is a really nice gaming keyboard. The backlights are nice, even though
they don't light up the secondary functions on the keys very well, the keys are relatively
quiet for a mechanical keyboard, and the different profiles give an added bonus to help you customize
your gaming experience for different games. The palm rest they include really isn't that
comfortable, but at least they include one. Also you have to keep in mind that the keyboard
does take up 2 USB ports, which could be an issue for some people who have computers that
don't have a bunch to spare, but the included USB port on the keyboard does alleviate that
issue a little bit. The color theme is a little odd, as the orange really sticks out around
the G keys, and most people really don't have orange themed setups, but it's not that big
of a deal. I'd just rather see something like the grey they use on the directional keys
used as the accent color around the G keys.
The Logitech G710+ comes in at around $150 on their website, but like always, it is a
bit cheaper on Amazon with the price currently being around $115. So for a $115, I could
definitely suggest this keyboard. It has made gaming much easier for me and I am very satisfied
with the way the mechanical keys work. If you want more information about this keyboard,
I will put the link to logitech's website in the description below they have a lot more
detailed specs over there. I will also put the Amazon link below if you want to check
it out on there.
