Welcome to Maastricht. This is the Guesthouse, the building where I live. Come on in.
It looks a little bit like a hospital.
This is my flat.
This is where I live now. In Morocco, we have a big house.
It's very different from the houses and rooms here in Holland.
Especially because I'm a student here.
In Morocco, my house has a pool and many rooms.
Here, I'm living in a single room. I even have to share the kitchen and the toilet.
These are Moroccan slippers. I like them because they're comfortable.
I brought some sweet pastries because it's Ramadan.
They're delicious. I really like them.
This is a picture of my friend and me. It was taken last Friday evening.
There's a huge difference between my life in Morocco and my life here.
I feel free here, and as a student I can meet people easily.
We don't have that freedom in Morocco. People don't speak to me politely...
and I get harassed out on the street. Even when I'm accompanied by my parents, I don't feel free.
This is my university, Maastricht University.
I'm going to spend four months here studying economics and marketing.
This is one of the best universities in the Netherlands.
Before I came to Holland, my parents told me about Dutch cheese and cows.
The cheese is exported to Morocco and people like it.
My friends told me about drugs and coffee shops.
They said people here are always cheerful and they like to organise parties.
That's why I like it here so much.
But they also told me about racism.
Not only Moroccans told me that. I heard that when I went to get my visa too.
Dutch people who live in Morocco told me about racism in Holland...
especially when the cartoons about the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) were published.
Fortunately I haven't experienced that yet.
People talk to us and laugh with us.
This is the Vrijthof where a lot of festivities are organised.
It's a really nice spot in Maastricht.
This country and this city are very dynamic, and I like that.
You can see that too.
There's always something to do here.
You can visit the museum, go out and meet people.
I'm really enjoying it here!
