Hi there my name is Vanessa Warwick and it is my pleasure to host this short
video to introduce you to James McBrearty of taxhelp.uk.com so welcome James.
Now tax is a very broad subject and there are many areas of specialist so what is
your area of specialist knowledge?
James: We very much specialize in helping self-employed sole traders
Who would be your ideal client?
James: Ideal client would be one person running a small business normally from
home looking to get help with their tax and also reduce their outgoings
Is it specific to geographic location because you are based in Surrey. Do you
prefer to help people face-to-face basis or can you work unrestricted by
geography.
James: Very much, its always best if you can meet up face to face you can get
much more of a connection that way but what we can do is help anyone in the
UK. Through Skype, telephone, emails, we make it as easy as possible for the
people to deal with the process.
I think for new businesses tax can be quite a daunting complex subject, how do
you help people through that?
James: Its very much making it as simple as possible so getting people to
understand what it is about their tax and their tax liability in layman, so no
jargon.
Can you give me an example of a recent client and how you have helped them?
James: Yep, I had a lady come in to see me last week who had just been started
with self-employment she had been made redundant and didn't know where to
start. She didn't know what records to keep any of the aspects of being self
employed and what I did was have a half hour meeting with her where I chatted
through all the various things she needs to do, record keeping and how we can
help her. At the end of the meeting she said that was so easy, its really about
making things as simple as possible for people so they can concentrate on what
it is they started their self employment to do.
Absolutely, that must be a great outcome. If people can feel confident with the
service you offer they can actually concentrate with getting on with their
business cant they.
James: That is right, people started up their business, not to do tax returns,
bookkeeping and other aspects of that.
Now you are one of the most well connected people I know, I know James the
twittering taxman where he has over 8000 followers but offline you are also a
BNI chapter leader aren’t you.
James: That's right I am a current chapter reader for the Epsom chapter in
Surrey. I am also an assistant director for BNI and what that involves is looking
after chapters and really helps business to grow.
You are also active on a lot of online platforms like E-academy, twitter, LinkedIn,
Facebook etc. and you have a very large database of contacts and your client can
actually leverage this because you can connect them to other people that might
be relevant to them for a joint venture or work with so is that a part of the added
value in your service.
James: Very much so its not just the tax return that counts, through my 1000s of
connections I can connect people to who ever they need to be in touch with,
whether it's a plumber for their rental property in Scotland through BNI vetted
professional that I can put them in touch with. Or even simply if they need some
specialist international tax advise I have got charted tax advisors I know so I
have a huge breadth of contacts so if I cant deal with you directly I have someone
that can help you.
That could actually save time and money couldn't it
James: Very much rather than having to go and find a professional come to me I
know 100s of people that I personally know and they are vetted and approved so
you don't have to go through that process yourself I can connect you with those
people.
Now in terms of your areas of expertise you have pretty much dominated the
online world as far as I can see and on twitter you are known as I said as the
twittering taxman you have made it very easy for people to connect to you so
where can people find you online.
James: Pretty much anywhere online, I have made it as easy as possible. There
are so many people that use different platform. Some people use email, some
phone others use social networking sites as well so pretty much whatever site is
easiest for you, you can connect with me through that.
E-academy is another one where you are very active.
James: E-academy is the main site I use, so people can very much connect with
me through the site and also I go to quite a few of the local meetings. So people
can meet me at a local E-academy meeting.
Fantastic so we recognize that people have a choice with people they work with,
what is it unique about yourself where people should choose you, what do you
feel is the unique service you offer?
James: Its very much making it as easy as possible for people, we have got fixed
priced services and the prices are all on the websites so there are no surprises
what it is going to cost, so people can budget for it. That is not a worry. It's also
the additionally aspects of being able to connect people through to who ever
they need it. Also social networking for business is something I very much
promote to my client and how they can use that to generate more business at a
very low cost.
I know from knowing you for a fair long time now you have got a genuine
interest in people and supporting them and helping them move forward, and I
think you are very much the human face of your business and you are very
approachable and easy to connect with.
James: It’s very much that, rather than say a large faceless cooperation you deal
with me, it’s me you are in contact with and its very much the personal aspect.
As we specialize in self employed people, that is our area of expertise so we very
much know the issues that are facing self employed people and how we can help
them.
Fantastic, so thank you very much. That's James McBrearty of Taxhelp.Uk.Com
