Okay, my name is Deirdre Judge,
I am from Boston Massachusetts, I go to North Eastern University
which is also in Boston.
I study Human Services and International Affairs.
It is a small city, really relaxed. I remember the first day
when I got drop off here and I was like where am I going and I was very
very confused but within a week I could figure out
how to get from place to place.
The first day, I was stumbling in the airport to be able to talk to people
and within a week it was like my brain
turned on the Spanish section that I have not been using for a very long time.
Now I can go out talk to people, meet people,
talk about what's going on, in the news even.
I think that's cool and
it allows me to have my personality back.
What classes are you taking?
I am taking three classes that are Spanish language focus :
Spanish Communication and Chilean Culture,
a grammar class and
a phonetics class.
I am taking Latin America through cinema,
a painting class
and Human Rights in Latin America.
Tell us about your homestay
I live with a family that, there is a mom, a dad
my Chilean brother is 23
and my Chilean sister just had her birthday she is 20.
It is a mini home away from home, and
I think it is due to having a family to live with.
Have you traveled?
I went to Patagonia so to Torres del Paine ,
National Park, hiked the W (Yes !) so beautiful
and, I mean, I have traveled around here more than I have traveled
to other places, so
to Concon to the dunes, sunset there is just...
I think this is probably one of my favorite memories so far, sunset on the dunes.
What about UVM excursions?
Isla Negra the house of Pablo Neruda
I can see why he wrote so many poems
living there.
Ah vastedad de pinos,
rumor de olas quebrándose,
lento juego de luces,
campana solitaria,
crepúsculo cayendo en tus ojos, muñeca.
the wine tasting, the wine tour
And the tour of Valparaiso.
Valparaiso is just a much more bohemian,
artsy city. It has more nightlife,
restaurants, cafes going on
A word of conclusion?
My Human Rights teacher told me that four things happen to you when you are in Chile :
You get sick, you gain a lot of weight,
you fall in love and you get robbed.
Maybe don't put that in the video. [laughts].
I definitively gained a lot of weight because I love the food and I cannot stop eating it.
I have gotten sick but almost the first second I got here,
but it was fast a sniffle ease
from the freezing cold of Boston to the beautiful weather here.
I did not get robbed but I was with someone who got robbed
so I guess that counts.
And I have not fallen in love, I guess I have fallen in love with the country.
