carry several other photographs, because you will be required to get credentials in most
countries when you get there. You must have shots for third world countries. An extensive
medical kit including Penicillin, Cipero; have a doctor filled prescriptions for Malaria,
get a tetanus shot. In many cases you will not be able to refill your prescriptions or
medications, so make sure you have enough to get you through the length of your trip.
In some counties you can buy your prescription drugs over the counter, but do not count on
this if you are going to a third world country. Proper clothing for the climate, small portable
short wave radio with batteries or with a 110 / 220 volt adapter; an iPod, small digital
camera, a lap top 110/220, small portable printer 110/220, a twelve volt to 110/220
power inverter that plugs into your car cigarette lighter. Depending upon the country you go
to make sure you are provided with a flak jacket. Also, depending upon cell phone coverage
you may want to have a satellite phone. Bargaining tools are items, especially when you are going
to a third world country, this is very important, that you give to the locals to help you gain
access to whatever you want to shoot. These are little things. It could be candy, it could
be flashlight batteries, fresh ones, it could be tobacco, it could be cigarettes, it could
be any small item like that, that will allow you to have more access into the kind of things
that you want to do. Obviously another bargaining tool is money. It is quite often that you
will be required to bribe individuals to get what you want. That is just the name of the
game in third world countries. Then we have another bargaining tool and that's when you
carry your digital camera. It's a great thing to take lots of pictures and then go out and
print up the copies. You'll have your printer, so you can print up photos and give back to
the individuals that are helping you.
