Hello. We now begin together
a new and enlightened step.
First, I'll introduce myself, for many people know my work,
but others are starting just now. I am Ian Mecler,
and I'm at the head of the Portal da Cabala as a teacher.
This institution exists since 2005,
and aims to spread the wisdom of kabbalah throughout the world.
This wisdom can really change our lives,
for it is original and pure; it came down from millennia,
having been preserved for us.
This will be a one-year course on the Torah.
This isn't new. We've been sending written connections since 2005,
then quick classes since 2010,
but now we're trying something new.
But why try a new format, if the old classes were so good?
Well, this is a new take. We'll go deeper.
Understanding that kabbalah is wisdom for everyone
regardless of gender, age, choice of religion, nationality...
It is for everyone who look for it in their hearts,
who search for greater meaning and understanding
of our journey in this life.
The fundamental book on kabbalah is the Torah,
the Pentateuch. It's right here...
This is the original scroll format.
Each week we'll scroll it out, read a section,
and work with that section.
That's what we'll do now, in this first Torah weekly reading.
It is critical to understand that this book is full of codes.
Taken literally, it doesn't mean much.
It might be just interesting.
But when we decode it, it brings an amazing light to our lives.
It's fantastic. Each week we have a real "Torah-py", so to speak!
Let's now dive together in this "Torah-py".
Let's change together.
A large group works together, but it starts with the individual.
We can't just rely on the group. Everyone must commit to change,
and to our learning.
That is why we now start
the first week of the Torah, called the Bereshit.
This reads "Bereshit".
It's the Torah's first word, "Bereshit".
What do we learn this week?
I could speak for an hour and a half and still
I wouldn't tell you all about the Bereshit codes.
"Bereshit bara Elohim et hashamayim ve'et ha'arets",
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
Plus all the codes, the seven days of Creation,
the codes of the Tree of Knowledge,
the Fall of Adam and Eve, the serpent...
There's a lot of good stuff in this section.
But that is not our goal this year.
Whether you already know the Torah, or attend classes...
That's not my goal.
Our goal here is to tackle only one point
and work it thoughout the week.
This week the connection is called "In the beginning".
We'll have the chance to re-create the Big *** in our lives.
Do you know the amazing Big ***, that created the whole universe
up to this moment where we are now?
That's what we're talking about.
It's not a coincidence that Big *** starts with a "B",
and we can see that the first letter of the Torah is also a "Bet".
"Bereshit" has the same power as the Big ***.
The word can be rearranged. If you change the order of letters,
it shows the first day of the kabbalistic year.
That's all very nice, but we're not scholars here.
What we need now is change.
There's a time in our lives
when change is needed, however welcome scholarship is.
We need to know joy, to know consciousness,
an to awaken. If not now, when?
We are ready for it now!
This is what Bet is all about, the possibility of a new creation,
The letter Bet is associated with Saturn in the kabbalah.
This planet bespeaks a sort of contraction.
So, the first great teaching found in the Torah is
in order to make a Big *** in our lives and to be creative,
just like God's creation, and this is a possibility for us,
for we are made in His image, as written in this section,
is that we also need to learn to contract,
in order to expand later.
How can we do that?
Through a meditative exercise.
Each week we'll have a phrase and a meditative exercise.
Let's do this exercise now. I'll ask our DJ
to play some music. I'll just sit here...
This is just a bit improvised, because
our focus is in wisdom, not in technical skills.
Let us now breathe together.
Relax. Keep your spine straight.
Close your eyes, if you can.
Let's try to do this every day,
at least once. Twice if possible.
Relax a bit before doing it.
You may light up an incense stick and play some light music.
We'll then repeat a mantra. The Torah's first three words:
"Bereshit bara Elohim."
Music off, please.
We'll utter the mantra ten times like this: "Bereshit bara Elohim",
"Bereshit bara Elohim."
It is a powerful mantra... This is expansion, by the way.
Then we'll contract, doing like this...
Just by taking a deep breath ten times.
Keep your spine straight.
Once you're done, begin again: "Bereshit bara Elohim", ten times.
Then breathe deep ten times. Do it as many times as you want.
Just try to spend at least ten minutes doing it.
After that we'll find ourselves ready,
in another state of consciousness.
The only moment we can start our lives anew
is here and now, in the present.
This will be our weekly exercise.
Breathe deep into this "now", and be welcome to the present.
Take the opportunity, don't just intelectualize this.
Let this be a real transformation.
All this work is really hard,
but it's done within a larger group,
to change and give meaning to this wisdom,
and to our lives in particular.
We also have a phrase this week. It's from the Torah.
"Let there be light."
Repeat it all day long.
Several times a day in a whisper, so that nobody notices,
"Let there be light."
If you're annoyed at any time, say: "Let there be light."
If you're happy, say: "Let there be light."
The words are strong. Later on we'll see how magical words are
in our lives. This is our weekly message,
we have meditative exercises,
we have phrases to repeat,
and we have a pact, a covenant we just made.
It would be great if you joined this pact
to spend a year in this connection, every day,
so that we can earn the right to the change that awaits us.
God awaits us.
Let's finish with a short prayer.
Let the Eternal Father protect us,
protect you and lend you strenght,
so that this year-long process is wonderful to your life.
Let the old pains and vices be overcome,
for within each of us resides an inner god,
ready to create Big Bangs and new worlds,
to help other people and to help oneself.
Let's project good thoughts, words and deed outward,
that we might be blessed in this process,
that we may gather every day in this spiritual connection,
by way of the kabbalah.
Thank you for your attention. Next saturday night...
By the way, the week starts every saturday night.
Every saturday night there will be a new class and new exercises,
a new connection.
Thank you for being here.
I'll say "Shavua tov", which means
"Have a good week."
Have a great week! Shavua Tov!
HOMEWORK PRACTISE: REPEAT OFTEN "LET THERE BE LIGHT".
UTTER THE MANTRA "BERESHIT BARA ELOHIM".
