I’ve waited so long to travel this far. It’s taken me thirty years
to get this far.
I ski with Cathal Murphy
who is visually impaired, almost blind
Cathal needs to follow somebody down just To make sure he gets each gate.
We’ve been skiing together for seven years,
so we've worked out a
pretty good system, you know.
All that he does is he just has to point the finger, that’s it.
He just tells me which way to go, and I just follow him.
A happy guy all the time. No matter what he’s asked to do, he’s only too keen to do it.
And he never makes any problems.
He never seems to get tired. He really, really wants to do well at these games, you know.
We’ve got to have the speed right. I’ve got to get into the starting gate with him.
But I’ve got to start a fraction of a second before Cathal
so that I’ve got a head start, you know.
The timing has to be pretty close because
if I mess up I ruin his chances of
winning medals or doing well in these games, so there’s a big responsibility, yeah.
I think I’m very honored, very proud to represent them
I love the alpine skiing. It’s a great sport to be in.
Great passion to have.
He's an impressive skier.
I’ve seen him come now from his first steps on skis to doing
really good skiing, yeah.
I’ve had several attempts to get to the states
so hopefully I do everything right.
We did have one collision but
in seven years that’s not so bad, you know.
