hey guys, how's it going. I'm online and on the air bringing you guys another art tutorial
Because I strongly believe that education should be free in some places it is
but not in corporate america
uh... last bunch of tutorials I did was covering concept working and being the internet
I guess it doesn't really matter which order you view these tutorials
everything's their own thing
this tutorial we want to cover was uh...
gesture drawings
i did gesture drawings back in ...
O eight
and i think..the gesture drawings I did back then was a lot stronger thought
that what i wanted to do was like repost it because i think it actually
covered subject pretty well
unfortunately
my files are corrupted
yay technology
so here I am trying to rebuild it
so yeah i'm going to be covering gesture drawings so what is a gesture?
a gesture
is like the blueprints of a drawing
its the motion the action
if you draw a gesture your trying to capture
capture
what the figure the subject is doing
i use the term subject
even though this particular tutorial is for figures
like people or characters - gestures is drawing technique / drawing tool that's
basically
can be applied to just about anything
perspectives
objects
cars
you name it
I just uh... figured that uh... doing figure drawings was
the best way of properly describing it
gesture drawings, what gesture drawings are and how to do a gesture drawing
so just keep in mind that this can be applied to anything
now a gesture
is something that cant normally
be seen
it's it's something that can't normally be seen with a persons eyes. you have to understand it
comprehend it
and learn how to see it
pretend
that your like a jedi
pretend that you can feel the force and sence it flowing through the person
you're drawing
now draw that
that force energy
that movement
their actions
gestures are possibly the most critical component of any piece of
artwork so it is absolute
essential that it's essential
to get this done before proceeding with it
anything else
their are uh... also seem to be like there is different types of gestures
some gestures in corporate other elements such as weights
boxes structure
to get a good idea
of doing a gesture
choose a subject to draw
and time yourself
what your trying to do is
is to uh...
draw the figured in five seconds
now i'm quite serious i really wanted to draw the tire figure in five seconds
just draw what they're doing
the drawing should come out as a bit of a scribble, that is good
this is an action gesture
doing these action gestures as an exercise should help you build up your speed help you
loosen up and make sure the figure flows from one component to the other
this is very important when drawing figures
is essential to keeping your characters from
coming out blocky and mechanical
you want to them
to be more organic and flow like water
keep your arm and hand loose
while your drawing
draw lightly
use curves
instead of straight lines
think about the order of which you marked down different components of the
figure
a general rule of thumb
is to go from the largest components to the smallest
less than a second component as you try it
say the components as you draw them
body and pelvis, leg, other leg, arm, other arm, head
here is an excersize for you to try
go to a well populated area and draw gestures of people walking around and stuff
i've uh...
once i went on to the park and i do think gestures kids playing
kids have really nice and dynamic poses
this is excellent for doing quick gestures
keep in mind everything here are suggestions
the best thing to do is to take as much as you can from various sources
and take you to practice which if you would be most helpful to
yourself
so that's all for now
until next time
keep drawing and have fun
