Today we are embarking on Week 2 of our online World History Class. This tutorial will focus
on discussions.
You have learned how to login with your Weed High School Gmail account and completed some
lessons about the use of Haiku and online safety during your first week of this class.
This week you will have a learning journal, this will be a regular weekly assignment throughout
the year, and for the first time you will be participating in online discussions.
Now, choose the 2.2 Assignment from the side bar and read the assignment.
You are going to be evaluating cyber safety by discussing some cyber safety rules and
you are going to be viewing a video. Those are your basic objectives. You are also going
to be reviewing the District Internet Acceptable Use Agreement. But, we are going to focus
on discussion.
So, you are going to read the cyber safety guidelines which are here.
You are going to read an article about online safety and you are going to be watching a
video, Tracking Teresa, which you can access down here.
Once you have done all the things you need to do in the assignment, you are going to
go to the Week 2 Discussion tab, right here and you are going to click on that. It gives
you the basic instruction once again but it also tells you the Guidelines for Participating
in Online Discussion. These are very important and you can go through and look at these.
Do more than state agreement or disagreement. Justify your opinion. Do appropriate preparation,
that means read everything. Keep your comments brief. Check your messages. Move the discussion
along. There are also other things; be gracious, be positive, respect each other, share your
experiences and keep up the discussion throughout the course.
There are also some Do's and Don'ts of online participation; use each other's names, complement
each other, be considerate, avoid slang, jargon and sarcasm, stay open-minded and respond
instead of reacting. There are lots of different things; you need to be reading all of these
things.
Once you have done all of that and you are ready to discuss; you click right here on
discussion and you click write a post, it's as simple as writing an email. And then you
post (Mrs. Coffman typing) and go on with your post.
Once you have done your post, you save it and post it and there I am with my post; "I
think Teresa should have been more careful" which of course is not an adequate post but
the purpose of this video it will show you what to do.
Remember if you have any questions whatsoever; you need to talk to your teacher, that is
me, Mrs. Coffman. You can talk to me in class in person; you can talk to me after class
if you want to be private. You can email me in this Haiku format by Connecting and going
to the Inbox and sending me any kind of question you may have.
I hope this will help you with you discussions. Thank you.
