Hi, my name is Peter Jaworowski, I am one of the founding partners at Ars Thanea.
Today, I'm going to show you how I created my Fotolia TEN project.
Photoshop was one of the first main tools I used,
and I continued to use it throughout my journeys until now.
Because of the fact that I can't draw
it was much easier for me to create directly in Photoshop.
Photoshop currently occupies the 2nd place just after
Excel, email or my mobile phone,
but it is still my favorite tool.
I wanted to create a very dynamic and clear illustration
of a basketball player
during a "dunk".
Light lines stretching out behind him
emphasize the energy and speed released by the player.
The whole project was to be magical and unusual.
The Sport theme was a great choice
for the TEN Collection project.
I've always been a big fan of basketball
and I still follow NBA news.
With my fellows we play NBA on PlayStation.
I didn't create many works based
on sports in the past, so it was nice
to try something new.
I like to have a free hand when it comes to creating something.
But presently,
the larger customer and commitment to
the creative process is much more difficult.
There are more rules imposed by brands, by a client.
But both of these situations are ok.
And I like to challenge myself in both of them.
In the production of a key visual, which is to be used all over the world
you have to remember to keep your PSD file in order
and everything has to be very clear.
When your file is ready it's going to be sent
to other companies all over the world.
They need to know how to use it as well.
While building a PSD file I always try to remember
to keep it divided into three basic levels.
The first one is the background, the second is the main one
and the third level consists of correction layers
concerning the colour and feeling of the whole image.
That kind of file structure allows an easier transfer
of key visual illustrations into other formats.
When you have a separated background
you can move all the items easily,
change their size, create new formats.
People often asked me how to get a cool lighting lines effect.
The recipe is simple:
find some stock photography that combines city lights at night,
or it could be a flashlight on dark background.
And using a special filter in Photoshop
that allows you to bend the images
you get a very nice light effect line,
which can be duplicated, changed in colour,
scaled up and down,
creates a very nice detailed light lines effect.
For the TEN Collection project I used over 20 different
images available on the Fotolia website.
I tried to make the entire picture look simple
but I wanted the pictures to be connected
in such a way that the connection is unnoticeable.
Here at Ars Thanea we use different techniques on a daily basis
including 3D, 2D, digital painting or photo-manipulation,
combining them to obtain a specific result.
In this case, I wanted to focus on photo-manipulation mostly
using the materials available on Fotolia.
During this production, I used the techniques
that have been familiar to me for years.
I've done a lot of light effects,
very detailed, with plenty of particles.
That is why I knew - from the very beginning -
what I was going to do,
It was just a matter of time
to get the effect that I had in my head.
My picture is ready,
you can find the PSD file on the TEN Collection website.
Thanks for your attention!
