Hi, I'm Dr. Dotani. I am a board certified physician in cardiology and interventional
cardiology. Intervention cardiology is the science of fixing valves, heart arteries,
in cases where things are at risk of heart attacks. There is also other vessels which
are also fixed with interventional cardiology, including vessels to the brain, to the legs.
So, it is a growing field that has encompassed a lot and replaced a lot of open surgical
procedures. Our patients usually have some basic complaints of chest pains or strokes,
or difficulty walking. There are certain tests that are done to confirm that these are truly
due to the blocked arteries, and after the initial tests, those guide us in knowing if
there is a high likelihood that this is a blocked artery issue. Then, we would actually
recommend for them to have them repaired or fixed. I enjoy fixing things that give me
immediate feedback. Every physician is able to help patients, but in my case, I'm able
to see the results of the work I've done right away. And that has attracted me to this field
and kept me in this field. The relationship with my patients in this area, since I've
been here for last six years, has been incredible. I have known their families, patients themselves,
and they have visited with me many times, not only including their medical problems,
but just having discussions about social activities. And that has really, I have enjoyed that interaction
with my patients. My favorite part of my work is seeing somebody who comes in with heart
attack and us providing and opening the artery, and they are completely pain-free and doing
very well half an hour after that.
