I've been a bit quieter about the second bombsite. It came together a lot faster than bombsite
1 and in my opinion is more memorable. I got the idea from THIS MAP from Unreal Tournament.
The idea was to have a tall structure in the middle with courtyard all around it and the
first version of the map was just that. The first thing that should strike you is
just how open it is- it didn't play very well and felt amateurish and dull, so I quickly
closed it up and added some more cover for the second version. Also, instead of being
able to walk all the way around, the central structure now extends all the way to the edge.
This was a huge improvement and the diagonal area immediately made it interesting from
a game play perspective. And a nightmare from a mapping one.
V3 adds more cover based on feedback from playtesting. It was apparent straight away
that the terrorists were overpowered, and so they should be- they start right at the
bombsite. This may be a big NO NO for counter strike maps, but I found it encouraged rushing
and got the bomb planted more often than the other bombsite did, which made it a lot more
effective for playtesting. The wall here stops terrorists from immediately nading the CT
entrance. This is extended further in later versions.
Version 4 encloses this CT entrance, moves the terrorists slightly further back so they
can't get to the bombsite quite as quickly, and raises areas to stop people from escaping
from the map. Version 5 adds polish in the form of walls,
adds extra cover for counter terrorists and alters the layout of the bombsite, the pillar
in the middle preventing a direct line of sight through the building from either side.
This bombsite undergoes further radical changes in the next video in this series, but I thought
I'd leave it here for now. This map's more complex structure really helps me later on
when I try combining the bombsites into one map and the diagonal area may end up being
the defining feature of the level. So, until part 3... have some video of gameplay from
bombsite B.
