I'm Candi Cane-Canncel with Expert Village. In this clip I'm going to show you how to
make a pattern for your pocket. Now the first thing to consider when making a pocket pattern
is the size of your hands. With this pattern it's pretty much a decorative pocket. So it's
not as crucial to get an exact measurement because it's going to be going on the back.
You're really probably not going to be putting your hands in there, or even holding something.
But the first thing that you do is just measure the width of your hand, and in my case it's
four inches. Then measure the, your length. I have pretty long hands; they're five and
a half, almost six inches long. But we're just going to do a four inch long by a four
inch wide square pocket. So you measure out on your paper four inches going up and down,
and then four inches going across. And then take your measuring tape, put it in the center
and do the same thing, so you have a center reference point. After that you're just going
to draw the lines to connect your little dots.
And with a pocket it is really important to have seam allowance because you're going to
actually be folding the seam allowance underneath to give you a really nice edge. So go ahead
and add a half inch going all the way around your pocket, and then a half inch at the top.
Once that's done, you're ready to cut it out.
