*laughs to self* so sad!
I'm sad, but I don't think it's sunk in yet
I think I'm just sad that Cassie's missing out on it
I think it will sink in tonight
I don't even know which way I'm going - I think I'm going this way
without any exaggeration, this is maybe the 6th time
I've had to turn around
*birds chirping*
*shiver* It's freezing!
The car is warming up
I've just got dressed
It's only just getting light outside.
I did move last night *laugh*
I got sick of the
trucks going out of bridge
that got very tiresome
and I thought oh gee, maybe it's
three o'clock in the morning
when I decided to move.
I looked at the phone
and it was two minutes past ten!
Here's one of the reasons, that having a camper is awesome.
no more than ten minutes ago
I started this
and turned the heater on
now I'm absolutely far too hot
*snort* It's gone from being horrible and freezing to
whatever temperature you could possibly want
in a matter of ten minutes. You just can't do that with a tent
you can't do it with a motorbike. You could do it with a winnebago or something. ahh it's awesome.
this is what I love about the mornings
you get to see this all come alive and wake up, a new day, it's lovley
The other thing you can take from this
is that only a truly 'povo' person
would eat weetbix in the carpark of McDonalds!
I wonder how many hours of straight road I can film?
at least another two hundred kilometers
and then I make a right turn
and then another hundread kilometers
I overtook a caravan before... big acomplishment!
so see the turnoff to Brewarrina?
the GPS had me going another
two hundread and fourty KM to Bourke
and then back to Brewarrina
whereas it's a 133KM to go straight there
I should just stop trusting it.
you've got no idea how big this sky is
it's just immense!
it goes for as far as you can imagine.
I'm one minute outside of Brewarrina
on the way in, I noticed a single peice of cotton on the side of the road.
I'd already gone so far past it, it wasn't worth
going back to get it.
I just
pulled over here
and there are tufts of it everywhere
they (the locals) probably don't think much of it but I think it's cool.
it's a nice feel to see the
two tanks full *laugh* to the brim!
so just leaving Bourke now
going up the mitchel highway
where there should be
a turnoff to Tibbabourough
I'm at the turnoff to Wanaaring
uh... 180 K - the dirty should start shortly
so the tar finishes up there
I just drove for a little bit to see what it's like
and have decided to drop the tyre pressures a bit
backs are at 30, fronts 25PSI
...we'll see if that's any different.
it's just beautiful
but I'm glad I dropped
the pressures because it's really soft
it's like a wetland just opened up
heaps of birdlife
it seems only swampy a little bit away from the road
but it may be bigger.
here's my beautiful spot for the night.
and as they say, the silence is deafening!
in fact my ears are almost aching!
I just can't hear anything!
except the occasional fly
it's just out of this world
time to cook some dinner i think
lets look around the car and see how it fared
o0o0o got a bit of red dust on there
I'm always jealous of people
who have red dust on thier stuff
the tyres are looking good
ah! - who says you need 'Coopers' to drive around the world!
I've stopped one hand width between the sun and the horizon
if that makes sense.
... probably not
...not that clear on the camera
one last shot before I have my dinner
I'm having
beef 'whataver you call them' *fumbles* kebabs! deliberatly on the underside a bit
I setup the
GoPro over there
to do a time lapse every ten seconds
so we'll see how that turns out.
so the first noise I heard
was a plane
of course I'm not going to be able to see it
Quantas!
ah Quantas... is there anything you don't cover?
you're like the Telstra of the sky.
and this is me
writing the blog post this one's titled 'stunning day'
I'll send it off
it's suprising how quick the stars dissapear.
all the stars were gone
about forty four minutes ago
even before any of this light was visible *yawn*
I have this habit whereby
I unlock all the doors if I get out in the night
in case I lock myself out.
just going to have a quick walk around
make sure nothing's leaked out of the car or anything
I know it's not the most exhaustive test
on smooth ground like this, it's probably enough
it also makes
me check if I've left anything behind
just leaving after the camp
a kangaroo right in the middle of the road
*beep*
beautiful red colour
that's the way I'm going
and thats the way I've come from
I think I can see the sun through there actually
Yes - that is it
I've seen the sun rise *laugh*
I have no idea where I am
well, I do on a map. what I'm saying is, I don't know where all this water came from it's beautiful
how flat does that land want to be?
I can't see one tree
I bet the car will virtually drive itself... yep!
no trickery here - oh hangon. Probably important I don't crash
I must be getting close to the queensland border now
the please let me know
like over this horizon close
All right, so behind me
that's New South Wales
this is aparently South Australia
so then I guess
the Queensland side is over there
there was a car behind me,
I'm kinda hoping that they come and open the gate *laugh*
that's probably asking a bit much.
that's the corener over there, but I'll come back. I just need to deliver these things
I thought it funny to see... how the 'old SPOT came in
That over there is the Cameron Corner store
I delivered the chips off there
... and that dot right in the middle
... that's cool
I'm the slightest bit kind of
deflated
to like arrived somewhere
and.... what do you do?
"That's it, made it"
maybe it's the wrong attitude to have
i think maybe the lesson is, that destinations arn't ever the point
it's always the journey.
like even if you think
to climb everest
it's not the last
foot
or the last meter, that is summiting Everest
it's the 8000 meters beneith it you've had to come
um
just to get that far
oh well.
it's so funny, I don't even have a clock in this car. I never know what time it is.
mr. iPhone can tell us
"what can't an iPhone do!?"
twelve fifty
so, I'm half inclinded to head straight back to...
um, whatever it's called...
Tibbourburra
It is a long way. A long way just to come to a post.
and I just hope I don't feel that..
well in saying that,
initially
like, I'll initially feel that about the Mask of Sorrow
or Channell Tunnel
any of those kind of
milestones in the trip. But..
i think and retrospect you look back on those points and go 'yes'
'yes' - what that represents is huge
what
but at the moment, or at the time, you probably just think
its cold, or it's hot
without much resepect of where you are what you doing.
by now you would have all got the
SPOT message on the blog
And you'll know that that truly was at the corner of the states where that was taken.
which is cool
have a look at these ants!
they pretty much attacked me when I put that rock there.
thankfully none got on me
but to move the rock, they're gunna get on me
I've just gotta get this photo.
*music plays* - ahh bit of Eminem!
that bird is HUGE!
MOOOOOOOOO!
Well... 275K of dirt
so round trip from Tibboburra to Cameron Corner
two hundred and seventy five
kilometers
to Broken Hill I guess
plus whatever that weird thing is!?
no idea, a bit freakish
this is the obligatory
pan shot, camped
two hundread odd kilometers
out of broken hill
It's got that silent nature to it
short of the wind buffeting sound
and the odd fly, there is nothing.
which is lovley
firm under foot
mmm just what you're after
allright. So I'm cooking a crumbed steak
I don't have any oil to shallow fry, so I'm just using butter *snort*
and my brand new tub of butter (I just pulled the label off it), just fell off
and half filled up with dirt
Cars are still going past!
not helped by the fact I'm in a towel
in case people wanted to know what our bed looked like
its effectively a single bed
I think it takes a single sheet though...
this is a double doona
probably about 10% too much
I've been pretty rough putting those window things on
there is the 'wannabe' laundry thing
Pillow
There is another one but
its on the drivers seat
Quorn has slithered over this way
I guess to check out my driving. He has a very watchful eye.
I've just pulled over at this rest stop
for just that
a rest.
of course can drive on
but is that ever really worth it?... don't think so
allright, so I've had a sleep now
feeling remarkably better
this contact lens I just can't get right
there you go Brett, that one's for you.
so I just turned off at lake Beannee
thinking that this was a lovley
spot last time... jeezus!
sooo... I dont know how but
I want to find some sneakey spot away from them all.
after heading for my camp spot
after seeing all the other spots
were full, I
promptly managed to get bogged with
what feels like ten people looking at me
so I've just dropped to 20PSI and I hope it moves!
phew - thank goodness for that
I was worried there for a sec!
I have already rinsed all my cloths
and pretty much washed up all
my dishes
but this face washer was particulary smelly
it's the one I used to have a 'hobo bath' so it's terribly smelly.
and I'm not sure if it was because the sun was going down
but after I'd had the 'hobo bath'
there wasn't so many flys.
and it was just a lovley reason to
take some footage of the
the water
wow - what I thought was rain
was in fact lots of little flying bugs
holy jezuz!
that mesh screen I put on
completely solid with bugs.
you could easily overheat a car
with all the bugs you could get on it.
I didn't even notice. I just thought
it was kind of rain
but maybe rain mixed with the odd bug.
listen to that lovley sound of rain
the only problem is, it's not rain. It's bugs.
it's not even that bad now
so this truck's just pulled up
I was going to wait until the sun came up
but
here's the stinky cloth
I might as well wash the bugs off.
disgusting
so, this is where I do the nice thing and sneak out of here.
*engine starts*
yes - my chair is starting to squeak
maybe at lunch time I'll put some WD-40 on it.
Which is nice, because other than at Dubbo to put the washer bottle back in
I havn't touched any tools, the whole trip.
so this is the
derelict remains of the
Ron Clark metal sculpture
which is where Charley Boorman stopped on
his trip through Australia
it looks like it's gone down hill a bit since
but it was cool how we found this last time.
we were just driving past and went
'wait, that looks familuar'
and um...
it was.
so this is kind of the final rest stop
before Wagga
other than stopping in Wagga for fuel
this will be
the last stop before home
which is a bit sad.
come so far and
for it to end is kind of sad
not sure if you can see
bug marks
that did once say 'rhino rack'
that's pretty putrid.
well, the bullbar. You probably saw that last night
so just coming into Canberra
and the first drops of rain
in such a long distance
but no rain up till now
