ATHENA REICH: In this clip, I'm going to talk about where you should look while you're singing
your audition for your Broadway show. Some people look right at the casting director,
the director, the people, the panel. Most people do not like it when you look at them.
So, as a rule, look just above their heads, okay. Then, there's some few people who like
it, and they might actually tell the monitor to tell you. I've been in situations in an
audition where the monitor came out and said, "Now, Frank who's on the left, he doesn't
mind if you play to him." Meaning, you can look at him and use him as the person your
speaking to during your audition. But John on the left, he hates it, or John on the right
he hates it, so don't look at him. But, as a general rule, unless, they tell you to look
at them, do not look at them. It can make them uncomfortable and they do not want to
be in the scene, when they want to be really a spectator, an objective listener. So, look
right above their heads and speak to the person in your scene.
