My name is Jessica Dearnley, and I’m doing the BA (hons) degree in Journalism. I chose
Huddersfield because I’ve always lived in Huddersfield and I knew quite a lot of people
from the University and I heard really good feedback from it.
We have incredibly supportive staff, and I wouldn’t have got through my second year
without them. The course is really well structured, and I love the creative work that we get to
do. And I’d say that, especially the journalism unit,
we’re all quite a close knit family. Everyone knows each other and it’s great bonding
experience. All the tutors are already working in the industry, they all have their own part
time jobs, or they’re freelancing. They have an excellent range of contacts,
and we’ve also got a portal where they add work experience for us and help us connect
with industry contacts. I’ve done several work placements whilst I’ve been at University
for top PR companies and writing for a few small magazines. I also work within a social
media department of the University where I run my own University campus blog, where I
blog about student life and interact with other students. I didn’t know what to expect
but I found myself really enjoying it. I love the campus, and the fact that they’re building
even more buildings and making it even more impressive is great. I would recommend
Huddersfield University to other people as it’s a lovely, friendly campus, it’s in
a nice place and the teaching staff all have amazing qualities.
