The Miser and the gold
There was once an old man.
He never spent his money.
One day he bought a big lump of gold.
He buried it beneath an apple tree.
Everyday he would visit the tree and think about his gold.
He was very happy!
But one night, a thief stole the gold.
The old man saw the empty hole and started to cry.
"My Gold is gone! My Gold is gone!"
A worm spoke to him:
¨Don't be sad! You should bury that large stone instead"
The old man was confused
¨Why should I bury that stone? My gold is gone! I am poor!¨
The worm replied "The stone is worth the same as the gold"
"When you had the gold you never spent it." he explained.
"You would visit the tree and it would make you happy just knowing the gold was there"
"Bury the stone and tomorrow you will visit the tree and you will be happy"
So the old man buried the stone and visited it every day.
And the worm would smile every day when he saw how happy the old man was.
