Maori health providers are struggling to stay afloat
due to funding cuts being made by DHBs.
Information released by Labour party's Annette King
show they have slashed more than a million dollars for Maori health
over the past three years.
Here's Oriini Tipene-Leach.
Maori health providers are most preferred by Maori families,
but with less funding, it's causing serious problems.
According to information
obtained by the Labour Party under the O.I.A,
funding cuts have occurred across nine of the 16 DHBs since 2010.
$1.3million has gone elsewhere.
And the biggest question is where has that money gone?
Some Maori health providers agree with Labour.
But the Ministry of Health and some DHBs
refute Labour's statement of miscalculated figures
and that in actual fact,
funding for Maori health has increased.
Ultimately,
it is not only Maori health providers
that have cause for concern,
so do families who depend on the services for their health issues.
