Welcome to our NEW search tool WorldCat Local.
You can search for articles by typing in keywords related to your topic.
So for example I have typed in media and bias. If you are looking for a phrase?
You can put that in quotation marks. If you are looking for a specific article title, you can put that into quotation marks as well.
Once you have put in your search, click “Go”, which is located immediately to your right of the search box.
A new window is going to open up and it’s going to give you your WorldCat Local results.
You will see that most articles have a link called “View Now”, below the citation information.
Clicking “View Now” is going to give you options to locate the full text.
You will be able to click “View full text”.
A new window open, and from this window you will be able to open or download the full text either as a PDF or HTML file.
In some cases, you may not see “View Now”.
If that is the case, click on the title of the article. You will get more detailed information about the article.
If we have it as a print version, in the Bound Periodicals, you will be able to see that.
If not, you will be able to “Request Item through Interlibrary Loan” directly from this screen.
Within your results, you can "Sort" your results.
In the top right hand corner there are options to "Sort by" the newest date, the oldest, title, author, or by relevancy only.
You also have options on the left. You can decide that you only want “Peer Reviewed” articles.
You can also decide that you are interested in “All Formats” of information.
When you check this off, you’ll then see articles as well as books and other formats.
At any point if you need help, there’s two options for getting help.
In the right hand corner, in the list of results, you can “Chat with a Librarian”.
You can also hover over “University of North Carolina Wilmington” and click on “Get Help”.
That’s going to open up a new window, and take you to the Randall Library Help page,
where you can email us, chat with us, text, call, or make an appointment for one-on-one help.
And you can also visit the library anytime in person.
We’re going to be using WorldCat Local a lot more in the future.
So it’s a great idea to go ahead get into it and get used to it.
Let us know what help you need. Let us know what feedback you have and good luck searching.
