DOUG JENKINS: Hi. I'm Doug. I work with 20 great guys in St. Louis at Doug Jenkins Custom
Hot Rods, and we're going to do some work for you today on Expert Village. Next we have
removing the two motor-mount bolts. An engine, the few first engines I pulled, I was really
surprised. They were only held in with one bolt on either side and they're held to the
transmission, and the transmission is only held in with two bolts on most cars. So really,
an entire engine and transmission assembly is held in a car with only four bolts. And
it's perfectly fine to pull the bolts without supporting the engine. The mounts are designed
in such a way so that the car can pretty well sit on them after you pull the bolts out.
The motor-mount bolts have this funny end on them and they have a washer built in to
them. So they're kind of a unique look and helps you spot them, but always make sure
you're using the right bolts. If you don't have that on there, it's kinda hard to thread
the thing through. That helps you get the bolt into the hole correctly.
