We typically offer an end-to-end service
starting with design, constructional design,
right away through full manufacture to delivery on plain vehicles using customer delivery notes.
So, it could be given just as a brief where we do a constructional design on a wide sample.
We then may do a 3D mock-up.
We would then do the production of that item from order
and depending on where it is delivered, it can be anywhere in the UK or, indeed, outside of the UK.
We decided to go digital after looking at the wider market.
We’ve actually kept an eye on the digital market for about ten years
but have never felt it has been quite right for us.
The reason that we’ve made this investment now is that we feel it is very comparable to offset litho quality.
It gave us the ability to fulfill some of the smaller orders
that the trend seems to be moving towards.
The quality was better plus the upgradability of the machine is also a key factor for us.
So we’re getting quicker and better quality all the time
and those upgrade factors are very important for us.
The service level has become more and more demanding
whereas, at the moment, if we were to do something offset litho for instance, we would print a top sheet.
We would then mount it to another substrate.
We would then leave it to dry for probably 24 hours.
Then, we would dye cut it.
The beauty of the Scitex technology is not only the quality that we are getting,
which is comparable to offset litho,
but we’re not having to mount the sheets and wait for them to dry.
We can dye cut them straight away.
So, the service levels that we’re able to offer are far better.
The other benefit that we’re able to offer is certainly a larger format size.
So whereas before we were maybe producing a point of sale unit in two or three pieces,
we may be able to do it in one piece now.
That gives far more scope to think about the project, to think about taking cost out.
It also of course, whereas before it might take us a couple of weeks
from an inquiry to a finished delivery using offset litho,
with this method, assuming the design is done, we can turn it around in less than a week.
The investment in the FB 10000 undoubtedly gives us far more scope to grow the business more rapidly.
Here we are just six months after the installation of the machine
and we saw dramatic growth in our six months
which equated to probably about 12% growth on the annualized amount for that six month period.
Whilst the growth that we’ve achieved has been organic,
we have lots of target accounts.
Plus of course, with the increased amount of media that we can print on
gives us far more scope to grow the business too.
So confident are we for the growth of the business on the back of our digital investment,
that we have placed an order for our second HP FB10000 machine
which is due for delivery in the next three months.
