What is an uninsured motorist claim? An uninsured motorist claim is when the
at fault driver either has no insurance or inadequate to properly compensate you for
your injuries so if we are in the situation where the ‘at fault driver' does
not have adequate insurance or assets,
we look to the drivers own insurance policy to see if there is coverage there.
It is somewhat counterintuitive the idea that your own insurance company would
compensate you for injuries caused in an accident, but that is exactly how it
happens and when you pay your insurance premiums every month one of the things
that you are paying for is your insurance company standing by you in the event
someone harms you that doesn't have adequate or perhaps any insurance at all
and they essentially stand in the shoes of that negligent driver and compensate you
for your injuries.
And there is 2 kinds of uninsured motorist cases, one is called uninsured motorist
where the driver had no insurance so you were hit and around there is somewhere
between 8 and 12% of drivers who are driving don't have insurance to cover any
injury damage claim that is made against them so that is where your own insurance
company comes in. You are paying every month when you are
paying your auto insurance. You are paying a premium for just that
for an injury that occurs to you in the event that the driver that harms you does
not have adequate insurance.
