I think about a painter
You know, only the painter knows
when it's the last brush on the canvas
I think it's done, and then there's always something
you feel like you could've added
Sometimes you can walk away from something
You'll come back with fresh eyes, and you'll be like,
"Wow, how come I didn't see that?"
"This would be perfect here"
This image is so indescribable because
It shows an innocence that we all still somehow have
if we allow it to exist
I'm pretty happy with it
I got pretty close, if not closer, to what I was imagining
It has exactly the vista that I imagined
The Duomo of Florence in the background
The sun's just gone down; you have this lovely little pink light
like a kind of strip of fire
And, you know, I think the text finally works really well in this spot
A piece is never ready
Every night, you can change things
The audience has to be always in my head
Even if there was two people or a thousand,
I need people to understand
I don't want to do just for myself
The audience plays the largest role in the work we do
Most installations we've created over the last two years
only work if they're completed by the presence of the viewer
And that's always the moment where the piece gets its second life
Perfection is impossible, but that was a direction
[applause]
We've been perfectionists, all of us,
every single piece we've ever finished
I love it. I get off on this stuff
I think it's just so good
I think every project should be like this
