bradley many has been in confinement for seventeen months they're charging him
with leaking classified information i when he was a inorg forces for ten of
those months he was the largely in solitary confinement
they would let them walk around for one hour day not really interacting with
anyone else walking shackles
they traded terribly during that time often
times being stripped down naked for inspections for no reason
uh... the mental health professional said he posed no suicide risk
nonetheless they would take away she sat night they would not let him sleep
during the day all this that was done obviously the pressure on
to give up the person that he leaked the information through because they really
wanted target julian assigns
but he wouldn't do it in another courageous act by bradley many
and so now for the first time seventeen months later on friday he is getting its
first hearing ever
i mean first of all let's
understand how register
if you're a u_s_ citizen
we would hope that you would get the trial some sort of hearing
before seventeen months of imprisonment including ten months in
basically a solitary confinement
i mean what i don't know why rights so uh... okay he's in a military at setting
their goal for court marshals a little different
but it's still an outrageous
way to treat atm
one of our troops one of our citizens
uh... and
when you break down his case twelve e day there's some
interesting uh... elements to it first of all
he he is charged with a and number of things one of them is uh...
eighteen a m
for eighteen any you can be executed
now the prosecutors have asked for life in prison which already is
unbelievable
but the judge can say i guess for life in prison
but i've been a order execution anyway
but now some other charges that he should
interfacing
is uh...
publishing uh... wrongfully causing tell this to be published on the internet
uh... effective public property records
and violating army security regulations
so op what do i think should happen to bradley met because look it's it's a
complicated case on the one hand
he released hundreds of thousand documents
uh... some of which were definitely classified information now they were
low-level classified information released nothing that was top secret
you should know that that is relevant to the case
number two in the beginning the u_s_ uh...
government was called by god i can't believe how is this is the start
we
went past uh... later how many people got harmed by red they were not be able
to name single human being and for this day they are not name one
so if you've heard anyone talk about all archive guys in the field work
in jeopardy et-cetera that is not true there's not been one person harm by this
release according to the u_s_ government okay
uh... second of all
he could have sold off the documents by the way
actual enemy of the united states and made a ton of money
if he had that in fact
but he didn't in fact
the guy who turned in that was having conversation as the wide inches sell it
to of four-nation
he said uh... i don't want to do that what i want to do this art for the world
wide discussion debates and reforms
about all of things that are we are
we are doing wrong
so he is
literally a whistleblower that was his intent it's unquestionable bid on some
of them
trinidad turns it evidence showing he is always a war bank
uh... on the one hand yest he he did something eighty it anyways i suppose to
violating army security regulations
in this program
is something that you can charge him with and perhaps sound the same led him
to something dating that in the east was that it was not a team that i mean
not even a deadly not on our people got hurt
and in reality there was enormous benefit from it
for example one of things that we found out was how corrupt the tunisian royal
family was after that was released in wiki leaks and again we don't even know
that many information it went to a few weeks
that's just a moment
uh... the accusations right
but if that is true
well look at what happened to the gym
it was at least partly responsible
for starting the revolution there that led to the arabs frank and that led them
to get rid of their dictator
i think is that they're good for the world op is fantastic for the world in
egypt more weakening stables that added fuel to that fire it's not so
irresponsible
for change of boarding chip
but it was an important part of that process here in the united states if we
got to find out
all the things that our government was doing the work that was wrong
with casually counselor fifteen thousand people hire that our government
was willing to admit
and they say that those tables
well we wanna basically
or basic hide this information from the public
obviously the
favors footage of uh... art
uh... troops unfortunately killing drawers on the ground in iraq and that
something that was covered up that was called collateral *** on the internet
uh... that video and
we found out so much more about iraq afghanistan what our government is doing
but a lot of powerful people
and dictators across the world are doing if i think they australian uh...
officials said uh... that it was one of these depressed so that it was
more investigative reporting and scoops
normal reporter could find in a lifetime
so
it'd be a big way this classic
whistleblower
when you are the ultimate determination of but which we should go on this n i
thought about i said look the problem is you can't just say that anybody can do
this
because one of the release of all information and you can empower
everybody who works in the armed forces are in intelligence to view this ellie
cadet will right
so i understand the government's motivation in
attaching some sort of consequences the brown today's action
and do i think he got a perfectly now
i have something for mation as i just told you was incredibly necessary
but at the same time healy hundreds of thousand documents
estimation is just my estimation for whatever it's worth if he didn't do it
he overly meaning
i would've preferred finished easy for me to say the comfort of the studio what
i would have preferred
abut
but what i think would be better is if pete selectively leaked of things
that he thought were gracious that we should know about our government and
left other stuff out so that he he is absolutely a whistle-blower
now you can disagree on that and say listen he did the best he could
he put out stuff there that wind up in assisting in the whistleblower
and and i would be sympathetic to that argument but i'm still most of the day
that argument as i just told you
that the government needs to put some consequence uninstall
what i think should happen
he's already served seventeen months
ten miles of which was brutal
is that enough punishment for if he it is true and they can prove
that he once we cause intelligence to be published on the internet
and that he violated army security regulations
yes there is plenty of punishment
more than enough punishment
they should have that hearing
they should stay in on truly will not put the issue of state
time served
