Hello and welcome to Unisport WebTV
Where I today will be bringing you a review of "a sock",
But it is not just any sock!
Because the sock in question is a "Trusox" sock.
Which in the last year,
Has become exceedingly popular, in the English Premier League.
Trusox themselves say the sock, is performance enhancing.
Partly because of these small pads,
Prevent you from sliding around in your boots too much.
If thats true.
and how Trusox actually work.
When you stick your feet in them.
Is what is on the agenda today,
where I bring you my verdict on Trusox.
Enjoy.
Trusox have been made with one single purpose.
To prevent you from sliding around within your football boots.
Because when you slide in your football boots.
Then you use a lot of unnecessary energy.
And you lose the momentum, you might gather.
If, for example, you need to beat your direct opponent, on the football pitch,
That does sound like something, you would want to avoid.
Imagine you're running on a really slippery surface.
And then you all of a sudden, need to change direction.
That is quite a bit harder, then if you have footing,
where the second you put your foot down, you have the traction you need.
And that's what Trusox is supposed to do.
The idea behind Trusox, saw the light of day,
When Jim, the founder of Trusox,
Was playing football, more specifically when he was competing for a header.
After the header, Jim and his opponent had to chase down the ball.
But what happens is, when Jim lands, he slides in his boot and loses his footing.
So the opponent, quite simply collects the ball and scores a goal.
This obviously annoyed Jim, quite a bit.
So he thought, enough is enough!
So he went home to design a sock, to stop that from happening.
Trusox have these blue and grayish, "non slip pads",
As they are called,
or just "traction panels"
Basically, what they do is,
They are adhesive, so they grab on to the insole, of your football boot.
And your foot!
Because these pads are on the inside of the sock as well as the outside.
This makes sure it grips onto your foot-
As well as onto your boot!
So it feels like your boot is part of your foot.
This should make sure your grip is better.
You slide less.
And therefore have a more effective power dispersion!
This Trusox claim, should make sure you have more stability -
Get added comfort in your football boot -
And also make you faster!
And that is a very bold claim!
But how these socks perform, in a more practical environment? -
Are they even comfortable to play with?
And can small patches like these, really make you faster?
The main reason why most of you are probably watching this episode -
Is to find out whether or not -
Trusox actually work, like they should!
And the short answer to that question is -
Yes, I actually think they do!
When you first put your Trusox on.
Then it will feel a little strange -
Because of these panels -
That you wont find on any other sock.
But luckily it did not take me too long to get used to it.
These pads are made with,
A material that resembles suede,
And that means, that straight out of the box -
They will stick and grab your foot very well.
One of the cool things,
That once you have played some football with them,
And start to sweat around your feet a bit,
And your boots are getting a bit moist,
Then the panels start working even better!
And I guess that means,
My foot sweat is good for something.
On the subject,
Of not sliding in your boot,
I think Trusox does a very very good job,
Because it does seem like,
They eliminate some of the sliding,
That is especially good, for when you need to -
Accelerate,
and turn.
But also for when you need to strike,
And place the foot your not kicking with,
Firmly in the ground.
To make sure you will not slide, as much,
And this does give you a feeling of stability,
Sharpness,
And some sort of mental boost
That is something, I really like Trusox for.
One of the other cool things about Trusox,
Is that the risk of blisters,
Which is one of the most annoying things in the whole world!
Is drastically lessened,
Simply because of the reduced sliding from the sock.
Both on the heel,
And under the foot.
You can, of course,
Be very unlucky,
And have a boot that fits really badly,
and gnaws your foot,
But all blisters that would come as a result of,
Friction and sliding in your boot -
Should be as good as,
Eliminated.
Or close,
At least.
Another thing to know about Trusox,
Is that,
The manufacturers claim,
That you will become faster when playing with this sock,
And even if they are very good for stability,
Sharp and generally nice to play with,
Then I do think it is too bold a claim,
To say that your speed is directly improved.
Wearing them feels nice,
But a significant speed improvement,
Is not something the socks can really deliver,
It is more this mental boost,
And this phenomenal comfort,
That float my boat!
To get the most out of the cool technology, on the Trusox.
Then it is very important,
That there is direct contact between foot and sock,
As well as sock and boot.
In other words,
If you play with your Trusox,
Either under or over the top,
Of another football-sock,
Then you might as well,
Not play with these socks,
Because then it wont work very well.
And then why bother buying it?
To be perfectly honest.
But to get them to work, optimally,
Your going to go through some steps,
And use a couple of things.
Naturally your going to need a pair of Trusox,
A pair of scissors,
Some football socks, that you aren't afraid to cut,
Preferably ones that match your team colours.
Otherwise it just looks silly,
Some sock tape,
Your shin pads, of course,
And your football boots,
What you start of with,
What I do at least,
Is that I put on the shin pads first,
Then that is nicely out of the way,
Especially if you have ankle pads.
There we go.
Step two is -
To put on your Trusox.
And if you are wearing a shin pad like me,
Then it will take some messing about,
To make sure they are sitting correctly.
Like that.
There we go,
Now that I have got the Trusox on,
The next thing we need to do is,
Start cutting the football sock we brought,
The thing I do,
Is I go from the heel,
And move up a few centimeters,
So we end up around the ankle area,
I usually cut around here.
And then it is just a question of getting your scissors,
"Snip" "Snip"
And get going!
There we go,
Now the bottom part of the sock is gone,
Get rid of that!
And then all we are left with is this sleeve, part of the sock.
Step 3 -
Well step 4 actually,
Is that you put on the sock,
Just the usual way, you put on a sock.
All the way up!
The standard way of wearing a sock.
Where you put the Trusox,
And the bottom of the sock sleeve,
Then I usually say,
As long as you do not cover the grip elements,
Then it really does not matter where you put it.
I find it the most comfortable, a few centimeters over the ankle,
Then you can also show off the Trusox panels,
Which are quite fashionable,
Step number five -
Is that you grab your sock tape,
And then connect the bottom of your sleeve,
With the top of the Trusox,
So it stays in place,
And does not start creeping up and down.
"Boom", "Bum", "Boom", "Bum", "Boom"!,
There we go,
Just tear the remaining sock tape,
And the final step -
Is just to put on your boots,
And then you are ready to go out,
And dominate the pitch,
With your new Trusox on!
This way of wearing your Trusox,
Is the same one the professionals use!
Among those,
Emmanuel Adebayor,
Gareth Bale,
Aaron Lennon,
And many many more,
And it is the way of wearing them that makes the most sense,
Because as I mentioned,
There is not much use in wearing other socks, with Trusox.
It really does defeat the purpose.
That does include,
If you're thinking of using them along with these!
The Metasox!
That wont work,
And then you might as well not slip on a pair of Trusox,
Because they wont do you any good.
Trusox come in 3 different variations.
There are the ones I am wearing,
Called "Pro",
That is the one most professionals use when playing,
It focuses on comfort!
And it is a bit thicker in the material,
In the front foot part,
The other variation is called light,
And compared to the "Pro",
The material is a bit thinner.
And Trusox say,
Lots of professionals use this version,
When breaking in a pair of new boots,
A funny side-note.
The last variation we get in stock,
For now,
Is a longer version of the "Pro-Sock"
That is good for training,
It is basically just a sock with a longer shaft.
If you are sitting out there and you are in doubt.
Then I recommend you choose the "Pro-sock",
You really cannot go wrong with that!
And now I am good to go!
When it is time for the verdict on Trusox,
Then I can quite simply conclude,
That we here have a performance product,
That actually keeps its promises.
And I do think the product,
Makes sure you do not slide about in your boots,
Like you do without a pair of Trusox on.
Furthermore,
It prevents blisters,
And that is always a bonus in my book!
Because I truly hate blisters!
These socks are really really cool!
They give you the feeling,
That your boots and you are in tune,
As well as giving you this sharpness on the pitch.
That can make you, a bit more cocky.
And give you the confidence to do the slightly cheekier,
And unexpected things.
As well as giving you awesome stability.
What they on the other hand, do not do,
Is make you run faster,
Not notably, anyway.
That is of course a slight drawback,
But I can forgive them,
Because the rest is very very good!
There might be some people out there,
After the first couple of times they play with Trusox,
That this effect is hard to feel,
But the second you hop out of a pair of Trusox,
And go back to a pair of normal football socks
That is when you notice a major difference.
I am in any case,
A big fan of Trusox,
And it is definitely not the last time I use them.
So when you think retrospectively about it,
It was quite lucky,
That Jim, founder of Trusox,
Fell over when he landed from his header,
Because otherwise I would not be holding these.
One of the most frequent questions
That we have been asked, in connection with our launch of Trusox,
Is whether to play with,
These or Metasox.
In response, It would be quite cool,
If a combination was made,
Where you get the protection,
And boot-stability.
But because you can only have the Trusox on its own -
To get the most out of it,
Then it is impossible,
And you have to make a choice,
Yes Jacob, that is all well and good,
But which should I choose?
Well!
If your looking for added protection,
And possibly some more power in your strike.
Then it is the Metasox your after.
If you would rather have more grip in your boots,
And maybe get rid of a blister problem.
Then Trusox is your choice.
I myself am a bit torn,
Because I really do like my Metasox,
And Trusox has really convinced me of its own qualities.
But if I Absolutely needed to choose,
Then I would probably be partial towards Trusox.
Mostly because they in the slightest,
Fit my needs as a footballer better.
That is taking nothing away from the Metasox,
Which still is a fantastic product.
It basically comes down to what you want!
And it is not the last time I wear my Metasox,
That much is sure.
This was my opinion,
And verdict on Trusox.
But I would also like to know what you people out there think,
About the tartan-print socks.
If you would write a comment in the box, just down bellow.
This was all there was on the menu today,
But I look forward to seeing you again,
Here at Unisport WebTV,
Have a good one, until then!
