Annyeong, guys!
This is Hands up, k-pop! where we disclose all the secrets of k-pop artists!
And today we are gonna investigate B.A.P's POWER!
B.A.P stands for Best, Absolute, Perfect. It is a South Korean group that consists of 6 members.
They debuted under the label TS Entertainment, which is famous for its artists Secret and Untouchable.
Before their debut as a group, *** YoungGuk and Zelo even released a single and like-named MV 'Never Give Up'.
Which of course raised everyone's interest in the group.
And at last it was the D-Day!
They debuted on the 26th of January 2012 with their single 'WARRIOR'.
Yep, it was something incredible. Right now, comparing to 2010, in Korean music industry there are lots of rookies that are similar to each other.
Please don't get it backward but for example I can't tell how the heck BTOB and Nu'Est are different!
How come? Every group has its own highlight!
I don't disagree. But when B.A.P made their debut I was like 'Wow! It was really something new!'
And I mean not the members' style but their music.
Yeah, I totally agree with you. Then let's reveal all the secrets of the 'POWER' CD.
This single, released on April 27th, seized top rankings not only in Korean music charts but also worlwide.
It was time and again being bought on iTunes. And it even ranked #1 in Canada for its sales.
On the very 1st day they sold more than 30,000 copies and ranked #2 after TTS.
Album has 4 songs. And just like in their first album 'WARRIOR' they stick to the concept of strong & agressive warriors.
That body art makes them look mature and masculine.
Photobook is equally divided into parts, each dedicated for each member.
As said, there are 4 strong tracks in the album. And first is 'Fight for Freedom'.
This is a intro song, so, of course, it reflects the whole album.
It combines genres like rock, hip-hop, and pop-fusion. You definitely haven't heard such crazy mix from any other k-pop group before.
Second song is 'Power'. As this the promoting song, they have put a lot of effort in it.
In this song they combined rock and hip-hop styles, emphasizing guys' vocals and rap.
All the members have equal parts in the song each of which is unique.
Comparing to 'WARRIOR' I think here there are more vocal parts.
Another thing that grabbed our attention in the song is its lyrics.
Usually k-pop idols don't sing about social and public issues.
It became custom that they sing about love.
However, B.A.P go against the system.
Seems that the members are very young but still they managed to raise such important to the society questions
Like discrimination by the government, double standarts, and community's detachment.
Btw in album's 3rd song 'What the Hell' they have similar genre and lyrics.
At some point it reminded me of Linkin Park.
Also, in their song they mentioned 'Guernica', a painting by Pablo Picasso,
Where the theme was bombing of Guernica during Civil War in Spain, 1937.
The last song in the album is 'All Lie'.
We know that usually artists put ballads in the end of their tracklist.
But this song however differs from other ballads that are even sometimes off base!
This is a unique and optimistic ballad song!
I especially want to make a note of the members' voices.
In this group everybody is definitely talented, and every single of them have a gorgeous voice.
If you know what I mean.
Actually before B.A.P made their debut my favorite rappers were T.O.P (Big ***) and Baro (B1A4).
But when I heard Zelo and YoungGuk they literally blew my mind!
Zelo raps almost as fast as Outsider which helps him score +10!
And YoungGuk's deep voice just gives us chills!
I like DaeHyun better because of his powerful vocals and long note
And also YoungJae! My cheers!
Even though HimChan and JongUp got more lines than before...
They still have have room for improvement. Fighting, guys!
We really liked their MV!
I guess even more than 'WARRIOR'.
Here they are sexier than ever!
Oh, STOP! Of course, I don't count the two underaged ones or otherwise I might get to jail.
In the story of the video they arrive on Earth as 6 frozen aliens
Who then defrost, start dancing, squatter in water, try to poison people, and in every way demonstrate they rule.
On the filming set a huge spaceship stands out most of all.
It weighs 700 kg and is 17 meters high!
And then unintentionally a thought pops in your head 'What if they really came to conquer Earth?!"
And how did you like the spray dance?
Has never before the bathroom call been so breathtaking!
And what's with that butt slap during the dance?
What I still don't get is why most of the celebrities do THAT and Korean idols don't?!
BUT! Despite some weird things happening B.A.P are the best rookies of the year!
Besides being ranked #1 in charts, leaving behind all other rookies,
I guess they are the only ones who debuted with a concept that no one tried before.
