it's a very special day for leaders of American Career College in West Coast University
who are attending the annual foundation for success luncheon
a fundraising event for KidWorks, a nonprofit organization celebrating its
20th anniversary
ACC and WCU are major sponsors of the event
we've been supported KidsWorks for many many years
and umm when we look at our support and the mission and values that the
organization have it's very very much in alignment with our own and where we see
ourselves as being an integral part of the community
just as KidsWorks has been here in Santa Ana for many many years so we're delighted
and very very proud to be associated with the organization
KidWorks' mission is to restore at risk neighborhoods one life at a time
and the way that we do that is by starting with preschoolers from the time
they're four years old
getting them ready for school, ready to learn, and then we work with children,
youth, and their families from kindergarten all the way through high
school and into college
so we are educating and equipping young leaders in these communities
I am so honored to be asked to speak
here today to KidWorks and for a lot of reasons
the highlight of the luncheon was a keynote address by former Major League
Baseball pitcher Jim Abbott
one of the most honored players in baseball history
he became a star pitcher in spite of being born
without my right hand a
[laughter]
KidWorks uses the money raised from today's event to fund programs at the
Dan Donahue Center in Santa Ana
through corporate sponsorships and individual gifts to support
KidWorks today raised some five hundred thousand dollars
there are a multitude of opportunities to be able to give back and get back smartly
then take those dollars and leverage them to help as many people as you possibly can
so it's really taken the success model that we have at American Career College and
West Coast University
which is student centric, is all about giving back to students,
and then the multiplier effect that that has, this is just another extension of that
through philanthropy
you have to give back, I want to give back, it actually makes me feel
really good personally on a very personal level to give back
at this stage in my life, this is something that I want to
dedicate more time to
uh using uh the many gifts through the years in education
to give back to those who are less fortunate we're very very proud
of our partnership with KidsWorks over the last several years and I've had
the opportunity and privilege to
go down and see the good work that KidsWorks has been doing and continues to do
we really want to thank David Pyle and all
the team at American Career College and West Coast University
for all their help and their support and we hope to be able to partner together
for many years to come
