My name's Rahat, I'm an operations cadet at Waverley depot.
It's a two year contract, and I get to go through
all the operational aspect of Sydney Buses.
I live in Greystanes, which is near Parramatta. I catch public transport everyday, so
a train and then a bus from Central to Waverley depot.
Waverley depot is one of the biggest depots within State Transit.
The primary reason being it's location.
uh... We cover areas such as Bondi Beach which is a popular tourist attraction.
We also cover areas such as Sydney Cricket Ground and Sydney Football Ground.
My current placement manager is responsible for my learning and development.
Manager - We're really lucky with Rahat,
the fact that he's nineteen is pretty amazing, he's got a full time job, he's
studying at university, he's doing frontline management
through TAFE as part of
this cadetship. Rahat - “Hey man, how you doing, what's happening?”
Manager - He's accomplished so much in such a short amount of time.
He's come in here with the best attitude,
and that is 'I'm gonna give everything a hundred-percent', and that's what he does.
Rahat - “Please step back thank you, everybody back thanks.”
“Keep moving thanks.”
“Just a couple more, two more.”
“One, two...”
“Thanks mate.”
Working for public transport, I can be part of the solution for our traffic issues. Making our
public transport system more effective would encourage our customers to use
public transport more often, rather than their cars for travelling to and
from work. That would certainly be a benefit to the environment by reducing our
greenhouse emissions.
We operate in a dynamic environment.
Things can happen anytime, so every single day, we're not quite sure
what we're gonna face.
The challenge factor is there, and that's actually quite exciting, that does keep me motivated
to come to work every day.
I see myself for the next two or five years, I will be working for STA, definitely.
