Our vessel is one of many that the State of Maryland and Department of Natural Resources
utilizes to keep the waterways open during the icebreaking season.
Cold weather and the ice flows come in and waterman suffer. They can't get out to fish
and oyster. It just closes everything up.
Having the ice broken ahead of time and passages open allows us to get through.
And also, in case there's an emergency somewhere, we can get out and perform rescue.
The past couple of weeks we've actually been out six or seven times.
Good to see the ice breaking up and waterways opening up...definitely an important service
and I'm glad to be apart of it.
I've worked on the water for a lot of years. I enjoy working on the Chesapeake Bay and
I enjoy serving the citizens of Maryland.
If there's ice out there, we'll be out there breaking it up.
