Selection committee / TV and Commissioned films Producer / France
Would you like to present yourself?
My name is Guillaume Galliot.
I'm a producer,
in association with Thibaut Chatel,
in a company called Label-Anim
that has existed for 5 years.
I've produced 2 animation series
and I'm producing my third,
"Magic Planet,"
a ludo-educative series for 6 to 8 year-olds,
for France 3.
What trends are you seeing in the films presented for Annecy 2009?
The strongest is penguins.
We have at least
ten programmes with penguins.
Penguins playing music,
walking about, looking for a friend,
going round the world...
The penguin is a sure thing for 2009!
Otherwise,
surprisingly, there's not much use of technology,
3D or other sophisticated things in the films.
People seem to be reverting back to more simple things,
which gives a less technical,
futuristic and ultramodern look.
What are the trends on an international level as far as TV films are concerned?
Today people are more aware of important issues to do with ecology,
the environment,
business or the society.
We can make programmes that are both
intelligent
and well-researched, and are not simply
excuse the word
venal, trying to entice an audience by any means,
and are programmes that are watched
and are popular.
Public channels are more aware of their mission
to both entertain children and be
intelligent.
What do you think the future holds for public service channels in France?
The future of the public service is a little unpredictable at the moment,
but I think this is only temporary.
Once this changeover to the no-advertising policy is over,
the public service will regain its strength,
serving creatives.
It will also be able to offer the TV audience
-children or others and in animation or other fields-
quality programmes that are different to those on other channels.
But that can only happen with proper funding,
and in particular,
unfortunately for our leaders,
by an increase in the TV licence.
