Hi, I'm magician Paul Weatherbee. There are many different ways that a magician can control
the cards once they're in play. One way is by using false shuffles. Now, even though
it looks like I was fairly shuffling the cards, I can tell with the card on the top of the
deck is the ace of spades. I'm going to show you a couple of these false shuffles. The
first riffles shuffle that I was just doing, all that you have to do is get a stack of
cards in your left hand a little bit smaller than the cards in your right hand, then every
time you riffle the cards, the card that you want to control will always be in the same
spot, because it is the last one that falls. Another false shuffle is called the slip shuffle.
From the front it looks like the deck is being fairly shuffled, but the ace is still on the top. To do the
slip shuffle, hold the cards just like this with your fingers resting across the backs.
Pick up the center cards and do an overhand shuffle and it looks like they are being fairly
mixed, but every time you pick up the stack your fingers hold the top card in position,
and there you have it, two false shuffle. I hope you enjoy those and hope you can work
them into your magic. Until next time, keep the magic in your life.
