unions looking to drum up
support for an
interisland ferry system
came out in full force
tonight.
They hosted the first
interisland ferry
conference at the former
site of the Superferry
docking station on Pier
19. Hundreds showed up to
the 5 hour marathon event
with speakers lined up to
advocate for a new
alternative...7 years
after the state's failed
attempt to set up the
Superferry. Most of the
supporters tonight
understand a SUPER-ferry
traveling at high speeds
is not a viable option,
but they believe a
smaller ferry system can
benefit the local
economy.

SUPERFERRY WAS A
CATAMARAN TRAVELING
FAST... USED LOTS OF
FUEL.. MADE PEOPLE
SICK... LIKE A
ROLLERCOASTER ... WE'RE
NOT ASKING FOR A
SUPERFERRY.. MOST LIKELY
A SINGLE HAUL VESSEL...
THAT'S MODERN... WOULDN'T
GET PEOPLE SICK...
PROBABLY HOLD COUPLE 100
CARS AND COUPLE HUNDRED
PEOPLE.

"IT'S IMPORTANT TO FIND A
WAY TO INCREASE JOBS
COMPETITION.. THE
INTERISLAND FERRY WILL DO
THAT.. ALLOW THE ABILITY
FOR MERCHANTS AND SMALL
BUSINESSES TO TRAVEL...
AND DO BUSINESS AT A LOW
COST"
The Marine Engineers'
Beneficial Association
co- hosted the event..
and says hundreds of new
jobs will come to the
state with a new ferry
system. We contacted the
Surfrider foundation for
comment on the story, and
are still awaiting for a
response.
