Hi, welcome to the Telonium Thursdays whiteboard web series. I'm your host for this week, Alice.
Today I'm going to be going over some of the benefits of VoIP. We've talked before about
some of the reasons why hosted is better than on-site for small to mid-sized businesses,
but let's discuss a few more.
First, we're going to go over: telecommuting! If you're a small business and you and your
employees want to work out of their homes, you can do it with a hosted system. All you
have to do is plug your IP phones into the internet and you can use your business phone
number.
Okay, onto the second benefit: dealing with storms! Even if you are not a regular telecommuter,
there are a number of situations where having the ability to work from home can be useful.
For example, if there's a big snow storm coming, and you know that your employees might not
be able to make it to work the next day, you can have them bring their phones home with
them. That way as long as their internet is working the next day, they can work from home and the phone
system can function normally even with them stuck in their house. Business can go on as
normal, even with the snowstorm outside!
Alright, onto the next: moving is a breeze! Let's say your business wants to move to a
new location. Now that you have a hosted service, you can do so while keeping your number, unlike
analog where you would have to get a whole new number whenever you moved locations. Another
great thing about VoIP is that you can expand to a new location as well and use the same
phone number for both locations. So if you hire new people in a different area, if you
so choose, they can use your original business phone number. This is particularly convenient
if, say, one location is getting way more calls than it can handle while the other has
the available resources to help out. With VoIP, you now have the possibility of being
able to redirect calls from the busy location to the free one, allowing your business to
be far more efficient.
Easy to grow! Now let's say your business is getting new customers at a super fast rate
and you are getting too many sales calls. Pretty good problem to have right? With hosted
VoIP, you can expand much faster than with onsite. Remember the easy installation we
talked about in the previous video? Also, there are features to deal with a mass influx
of calls like call queuing, so even if you don't have enough phones to address all customers
at once, you can keep them on the line and address them one at a time. This is the awesome
thing about having unlimited lines with hosted. If you had limited lines as you would with
an analog system (say 6), anyone beyond 6 people would get a busy tone.
Benefit #5: On the go! Thanks blue intern! Now let's say you're in the real estate business
or some other business where you're on the go a lot. With a hosted solution, you can
easily forward your extension calls to your cell phone. We also have a feature called
"Follow Me/Find Me" that will try several phone numbers sequentially to reach wherever
you are. You can use this to try your regular extension first, then your cell phone, and
then say your home phone number, and so on, whatever order is best suited for you.
As you can tell, there are plenty of situations where a hosted phone system allows your business
to surpass other businesses going through the same circumstance. You have much more
flexibility and the ability to keep some of normal business operations going even in the
face of tough weather or rapidly changing conditions. So if your business is one that
wants to be able to adjust and change for whatever reason, a hosted phone system is
one that can seamlessly change along with you.
