Named in honor of the great Missouri educator, J.M. Greenwood, Greenwood Laboratory School
was established in 1908 as part of the teacher training curriculum at Springfield Normal
School. In 1966, a new school was built for Greenwood, located on the campus at 1024 East
Harrison. In January 2011, the new 2.5 million dollar Science Scholars’ wing was opened
with two state-of-the-art science laboratories.
Students in kindergarten through third grade are provided iPads to assist with their classroom
instruction in math, language arts and social studies. Greenwood students in grades five
through twelve experience one-to-one technology as each student has his or her own wireless
laptop computer. Many textbooks for Greenwood students are provided electronically.
At center court are Greenwood Lab School students Carter Garrison, Student Body President, and
third-graders Tess and Gibbs Hutter, carrying the iPads provided by the school. With them
are big brothers Hayes and Tate Hutter, one dressed as Greenwood mascot J-J. On the court
to congratulate them are Missouri State President Clif Smart, Vice President for University
Advancement Brent Dunn. Ladies and gentlemen, please acknowledge these Greenwood students.
They are in The BancorpSouth Academic Spotlight.
