Hi, I'm Jeff Krueger, director of nutrition and wellness education for Slimgenics and I'm
here again today at the Tamarack Whole Foods Market
to continue our video series on how you
can get the most out of your grocery shopping.
Today, we're gonna take a look a
very important food group,
the protein section.
For weight loss, it's crucial that you get a
variety of proteins to start your day.
This is to balance blood sugar and your insulin levels and reduced and even
eliminate cravings.
There are tons of different protein choices on the on plan food list to
choose from.
So if you start your day normally with eggs or if you don't like eggs, remember
there are lots of other choices.
Personally I choose different things for breakfast all the time.
I'll choose
lean chicken, or fish
sometimes I'll even do red meat for breakfast.
But it's not always one thing.
This is really important
because without a variety of proteins
weight loss plateaus and
rebound weight gain happens
more frequently
and can even last for a longer period of time.
It's great to mix up your protein with different fruits or vegetables choices on your
on plan food list.
For breakfast, with my protein I usually have a steamed vegetable or two
I love steamed kale and
cauliflower.
While variety in your protein choices is really important for weight loss
another key tool is that you weigh your proteins before you cook them.
This is to ensure that you'll always be getting
on plan portions.
One of the most useful tools that you can get
is a small
food scale
These inexpensive devices
are perhaps
one of the best tools that you can have for now and the in the future.
We've talked about the importance of variety and
portion sizes for protein
now let's talk about the
importance of the quality of the meats poultry and sea foods
you choose for
faster easier weight loss.
A major reason
for weight loss plateaus and even rebound weight gain
is how well your body removes
stored chemical
toxins.
This is called detox.
The protein group
has the most potential
to contain more toxins
than any other food group,
and it's because of this, it's
really important to pay attention to the quality
of your meat, poultry, and sea food.
Proteins are at the top of the food chain so the concentrations of
pesticides herbicides fungicides that have been applied to the feed
and to the plants, fruits
any of the vegetable matter that animals, chicken, and
farmed fish
receive
those are all concentrated at the top in the protein section.
In fact, ninety percent of all your chemical load from food, can come from
protein section.
So, if you're really serious about faster easier weight loss
minimizing rebound weight gain and also minimizing any weight-loss plateaus, it's
worth the effort
and the extra money to buy local, hormone free,
antibiotic free
wild and even organic
animal
poultry, and fish.
These simple selection strategies
will help you lose weight faster,
avoid rebound weight gain,
minimize any plateaus,
and most importantly
they'll keep your meals satisfying interesting, and yummy.
