[barking] Milo: When it comes to second chances, that’s
something TAILS in Sycamore strives to accomplish with each animal that comes through their
door. And with the help of NIU students, this facility is run smoothly with a smile on each
volunteer’s face.
[more barking] Abby Gaebler: I’m Abby Gaebler, I’m the
vice president and co-founder of the the pre veterinary medicine association at NIU. We
do a lot of volunteering here at TAILS animal shelter. Tails needs a lot of help. They have
a lot of dogs that need to be walked, cages that need to be cleaned, cats that need to
be socialized, just general shelter maintenance and upkeep. It’s a way for members of the
PVMA to get hands on animal experience.
Sarah Stuebing: The Prevetrinary Medical Association gives students a chance at NIU to be involved
in different activities such as service that gives them animal experience. Our advisor
is actually a vet herself, Dr. Freeman of NIU. And so it’s a really great way for
people to get involved and get a head start towards vet school.
[dogs are still barking!] Caitlyn Coen: I started working here to get
animal experience, become a veterinary major, but also this is my passion. I enjoy doing
this because I love dogs. It’s a great environment to work in, its a lot of fun. It’s basically
like having 100 dogs you have to take care of.
[bark bark bark] Verna Holland – They’re a really nice
group. They’re coming in and doing a lot of work, a lot of really dirty work, really
doing a great job. It’s really nice when we get volunteers to come in and help us out.
Milo: For these NIU students, charity work is not seen as a chore but rather as a pleasurable
experience, and TAILS is happy to foster this, and the animals. This is Milo, and Spudzie,
saying See you later, NIU.
