Judging team is basically designed
for students
as an extracurricular activity to go above and beyond
just their classwork
to build skills, life building skills like responsibility, public speaking
those kinds of things that would enhance their career opportunities
we travel to
I think about ten contest a year. in preparation for these contest
we do work out
quite extensively above and beyond just the classroom
we work out like tonight on tuesday and thursday evenings on friday afternoon
and then most times all day saturday
we came to arkansas as a pretty diverse team and uh... we all had pretty high hopes this
year of doing well and competing at all the national contest
such as arizona, denver, fort worth and uh... so far really pulled
together and became a really good team and gotten very close. I never thought I'd be
as close as i am to some of people but it sure is a really tight-knit group. we all
have a good time doing it and we've been very successful this year. after graduating
arkansas with my animal science degree maybe hopefully get into vet school if not, I'll
go to graduate school and get a masters degree in reproduction or nutrition
and sail on the live stock field in some capacity and that's what'll make me happy.
while the judging team is supported in the animal science department, the team
members can come from a
variety of backgrounds. We have Ag Ed, a lot of ag ed students are
interested in poultry science
from a variety of departments within the Ag College and also students are certainly
uh... willing to
are invited to come from other colleges within the university system as well we
have one
on this year's team that's from a different college
my roots run deep in livestock. i've judge since i was seven years old
and i've grown up showing cattle, sheep and hogs
Bryan Kutz recruited me just like the rest of the seven others on the team
and i really enjoy hanging out with these people and judging with them and
traveling with them especially on arizona trip we got to site see at the grand canyon
a little bit and it was really cool too
just be there and take in all that greatness that is there
and just all the opportunity to travel and see things
so far the trips that we've been on
at denver
uh... we won sheep and goats out there and won third team overall.
at uh...
Fort-worth, we were third
at Dixie National we were second
as a team
and hopefully
we will continue that success in this year's teams began as a successful team
as I think Arkansas' have in many many years
