At the age of 18 I was... I aged out of foster care.
There weren't a lot of opportunities at that time for students aging out of foster care to go to college and so...
Unfortunately I wasn't able to pursue higher education and was forced to live on the streets of New Orleans. Homeless.
I ended up coming to Rose State College because I've kind of made connections over the years professionally
and met a few of the counselors here. Some of the employees and some of the staff,
and professors. And over the last 10 years they've been encouraging me
to come to Rose State College. Give it a chance, because they believed in me.
The first day I walked into Rose State College, my first class there were about 17 people in there.
The professor new my name. The professor was aware of my grades. The professor graded my work really quickly
and I felt like I got personal attention from the professor.
Anybody that can come here and encounter them and take a class with these professors is lucky,
and they will have a relationship with them that they probably wouldn't at a larger university.
And if that's important to them, then this is probably the place for them.
You know... I'm at O.U.
And so, I know that for sure I will be taking some Criminal Justice courses.
And maybe even venture further into public policy because I know that I'm passionate about that as well.
