As you know, after the infection I was depressed...
I didn't want to know anything about fighting.
I went to Monterrey to prepare,
they told me that with my knee like that I shouldn't do anything for two months
I just couldn't stop exercising
A group of sports specialists in Monterrey opened their doors to me
I started to train, to prepare
Thankfully after the infection was gone I didn't need to have surgery
and I started to train, preparing, waiting for a call from the UFC
It felt eternal to me. I didn't get a call, didn't know when I was fighting
I thought I was fighting next year
Thankfully I got this fight in August They said I was going against Mizugaki Thankfully I got this fight in August, they said I was going against Mizugaki
I was happy again, the adrenaline once more inside my veins
I wanted to train harder and started preparing
He's a strong opponent, a big rival
and I have to beat him if I want to be in the division's top 10
I was in Los Angeles training with Tom "Kong" Watson and Jake Murphy
at Mark Muñoz's school
I was on my way to a session when I got the call
I was happy to accept,
It's a good fight, Mizugaki has a name in the UFC
he's well respected, he has some years here, experience,
and if I want to be the best I need to fight the best and I have to take him down
I've evolved in all aspects
I'm becoming a complete fighter which is what I want to be
That you not only see my fight up top and most haven't seen my fight three rounds
Maybe never seen me finish the first round
but I think I'm becoming a complete fighter and maybe this time we'll see three rounds
and you'll get to see what I am, a complete fighter
I always prepare to go the distance
I've done it outside of the UFC, I've had decisions
Thankfully in the UFC I've never been outside the first round
but I always prepare for the distance, like if I was fighting five five minute rounds
I always train hard, you've seen it firsthand this week
It's thursday and my body can't go on, my shoulders are really tired, my neck, I'm really tired
You have to give it all, they say "If you're not hurting, it's not working", everything hurts now
I'm working really hard and if I reach the third round I'll give it all
From the first to the third round I'll give it all my "Goyito Power"
I always say nothing's impossible
When people told me that a born and raised mexican couldn't make it in the UFC…
Tell me what I cant' do and I'll tell you to sit down and watch me do it
To every kid that is training, this a really athletic sport, you have to work on it all the time
but with dedication and effort, nothing's impossible.
For all the kids who dream of being in the UFC,
who dream of fighting in big promotions,
I tell them that there's no such thing as impossible.
If you have it in your heart and in your mind, you'll get everywhere.
