My objectives for student learning are incorporated
or communicated to the student learning, I think in 3 ways.
In the beginning of the term there is an outline of the 11 weeks
and my expectation of their investment of the course of 11 weeks.
And I talk a little bit about, even though they have no context for understanding this,
I talk a little bit about what I expect them to learn as the term progresses.
In the to-do lists that are published on Blackboard every week,
both the content and the process goals are pretty clearly articulated
and then I go over them in the beginning of class
and occasionally at the end of class also.
And so I try to keep the focus on:
What are we trying to do here today?
How is this contributing to your understanding of the material?
How is this contributing to acquisition of new set of skills, new set of capacities in the world?
