My husband Danny and I were a few years in the village before we had any children
So the day we did show up with her in our arms
there were a lot of very excited ladies waiting for us to get off the plane.
to be honest I had a few fears that I had never ever thought of before,
what if she gets sick here?
I had to retrust the Lord for all those things in the beginning
and say Lord we know this is your will that you have us here,
so that we can continue to minister here,
and so, I just gave it all over to him, knowing that He would guide us and give us the wisdom we needed
And uh, I remember getting up this day and she just seemed more lethargic
And we, you know, gave her some medicine to get the fever down and the next day she was a little bit worse.
We’d been planning for weeks, to fly in for the weekend to spend some time with them.
And that morning, got up, looked at weather, realized a typhoon was inbound and so we cancelled the flight,
so I called Danny, told him, [he] said that was no problem.
Well between about 12 noon and 3:00 she went from being quite sick to very very very sick.
She had some surgeries when she was younger, she had some kidney trouble; and I thought this could be a really bad infection that we need to see to right away.
Uh, we knew we had to get her out that day. 24 hours was going to make all the difference.
And I remember just having a sort of panicking feeling when I realized that
My husband Danny called our missionary pilot um to ask him if it was possible to please get us out, it was an emergency.
there was a typhoon coming. Um, the roads were washed out, we didn’t have a vehicle in the tribe.
The only way to get out of the village where we are was through our our missionary pilot.
I just, I felt really helpless because my initial thought was I’ve already decided I’m not flying today.
And I just started praying, and just evaluating the situation from the standpoint of an emergency.
And just decided that I’m going to take it one step at a time.
If the Lord opens a hole, I’ll go through it; if he doesn’t I’ll turn around and come home.
My stress levels were just so high. I just felt totally overwhelmed.
I didn’t know what to do and I was just praying the whole time.
It looked like uh we had a window where I might be able to get in. So I took off,
tried to go the direction that we normally go. It was socked in, no way to get through,
so turned, went another way, just praying the whole way. And uh the Lord just opened up a corridor through the mountains
It was a really long hour for me, I was getting so worried as she became more and more lethargic.
And her fever was just skyrocketing, and I thought, we need to get out now.
We really weren’t sure if he was going to get in that day or not.
It’s a wonderful sound when you’re in the jungle
when you’re waiting for the plane and you hear that small drone getting closer and closer.
And you realize, he’s coming! We’re going to be able to get out.
Um, as he landed though, the weather just took a terrible turn for the worse.
The winds were so strong, it was raining, and we’re all standing on the airstrip.
And I remember the ladies were the ones that had carried Isabella to the airstrip, and they just started praying.
And um, the pilot said let’s just get in the plane, and we got in the plane, and he said we’ll just pray.
one of the rain bands hit. and we’re sitting on the end of the runway, and palm trees are just laying over – the wind was blowing so hard.
And we sat there and we sat there, and um, we sat there, I was watching the coconut trees.
And the lord just stopped the wind, and within 5 minutes we were in the air.
And I prayed the whole way there, cause I could tell she was really sick.
I can’t think of too many times I have more intensely felt that people were praying and the Lord was answering than that day.
there were a group of missionaries already waiting for us, the guest house people had our room ready. There were missionaries to drive us to the hospital,
We found out that night that she had malaria, she had a UTI, she had a kidney infection,
but within a few days of people all around the world praying for her, and getting the right medicine,
I praise the lord that she made a full recovery. And there was nobody as happy to hear about it as those ladies in the village.
