In the current environment there is a high demand for trainers and assessors out there.
Here at RMIT we provide the qualifications which give those staff members the qualification
first of all and the capacity to work within their organisations to deliver effective
training and assessment.
One of the reasons that I chose the RMIT course over others was one of the electives was e-learning,
so learning how to develop and design assessment tools around that. In this day and age I think
it's very necessary to have this kind of background and that kind of knowledge to put into the
classroom and if we can engage them that way, through e-learning and m-learning - mobile
learning - then I think we've definitely got an edge over others so that was one thing
that really drew me towards this course.
There are a lot of ways to get this type of qualification, and through correspondence, but it's so important
to attach yourself to a school that has that good reputation and a facilitator as well.
In working with industry clients we're very flexible in three ways. First is in terms
of time frames, so working around the organisation's operation time frames and we're also flexible
in terms of resources and the electives we choose for the organisation in meeting their
needs and finally also location, so we can deliver the program here at RMIT and also
on site at the institution itself.
The teachers are amazing, they're really, really knowledgable and it's great to be able
to have someone to bounce ideas off. I also think that our teachers are great at
being able to lead you on that journey of learning so rather than spoon feed you the
answers they're actually there just to challenge you.
The facilitator and the program are really structured around that student focus - so,
finding out what I need to get out of the course and make it relatable to myself
and my industry.
The best resource is actually the students themselves, their experience, their background,
their technical expertise and the facilitator, the teacher's job is just to provide the environment
in which all that comes out.
If you did ask any facilitator whether they are at the top of their game, every
single one of them should come back and say "I'm not, I can always improve".
I would like to think of myself not just as a trainer anymore but an advanced facilitator,
so it gives you the extra skills. Yes, you can be a good teacher, but what makes
you a great teacher? That's what the diploma gives you.
