>> HOLLY: My name is Holly Marshall, I am Head of Public Affairs at Aldermore and today
we are really excited to welcome Doctor Vince Cable to our Reading office.
He's come to visit us primarily because he's really supportive of the work we do to support
UK SMEs.
Our asset finance, which is based in Reading, are about to hit important milestones so he's
coming a long to announce the fact that we've meant quite a considerable amount to SMEs
since we began.
Hopefully he'll get a good sense of what we do and what finance is all about and how Aldermore
is really, really supporting its customers.
You know, we are really helping our customers and by doing so, we are supporting the economy.
>> GEORGE: George Ashworth, Managing Director of the Aldermore Bank Asset Finance business
line.
There were two very, very productive meetings and I think the key message in both meetings
were the Aldermore story, in terms of where we've come from and where we're going.
Our desire to be the champion of UK SMEs in particular and that's a passion that we know
the secretary of state business innovation and skills shares with Aldermore Bank.
>> PHILLIP: I'm Phillip Monks, I'm the chief executive of Aldermore, we're here today because
we have a visit from the Secretary of state for Business, Innovation and Skills. He's
come to see our asset finance business in reading.
Well, it's a major landmark, we've passed through half a billion of bank sheet lending
but actually, behind that we've lent nearly nine hundred million of asset finance business
to SMEs, the bank continues to grow well, prudently but quickly and has a total balance
sheet of two point seven billion now.
I suppose the interesting thing is that Doctor Vince Cable believes passionately that SMEs
are the way in which the UK economy is going to recover and that's something that we do,
we try to champion the causes of SMEs, as you know.
And therefore, he's particularly interested to see how Aldermore is doing it but alongside
that, he's passionate about the growth of what we call the challenger banks and therefore,
having more choice and competition in the banking community.
