The single most important thing is to not pigeonhole yourself, to not say, "I'm a writer,"
"I'm a photographer," "I write for print," "I write for a magazine," "I work in television."
I think the most important thing is to say, "I am willing to work in whatever platform
I can to tell an interesting story and provide people information that they need for their
jobs." And then I think that, to really understand multiple platforms, I don't think everyone
has to be good at every single thing. I don't think every writer has to be able to shoot
and edit video. But I do think that every writer has to understand what a really good
video story is, and what you need to get a good video story, and when you might want
to choose a video story, or when you might want to choose to use a graphic instead, and
to really have a good broad understanding of the effectiveness of the different platforms
and the different story forms.
