I went to uni to get basic knowledge because I knew I wanted to turn ideas into businesses,
but I always figured you need to know accounting, economics, marketing, just the basic foundations
so you have the confidence to take your idea into the marketplace.
I was looking for a course that offered something a little bit more than straight business,
and Vic Uni’s entrepreneurship course did exactly that. It offered the basics, which
is what I went to uni for, then offered the entrepreneurial type subjects on top of that,
which was basically a perfect mix for me.
The business is Arrange Exchange, arrangeexchange.com. It came about as a way of me trying to sell
my textbooks to other students at Uni. I had the issue of trying to sell my textbooks,
but also buy second-hand textbooks, and often it was really difficult to go through the
bookshop or go through other people. So I thought why not go online and try it that
way. So I launched Arrange Exchange as a really basic prototype. And then when I did, I had
a lot of people contact me and say: yeah this is a great site. And I actually surveyed a
lot of students, and from that feedback I got, was probably the time when the light
went ‘bing’, and I was like: yeah this could turn out to be a great website, and
turn into a great business.
Victoria University was a great place for me to do my course because I found that the
relationships and the student community were really a great conductor for my learning and
the ideas that were thrown around at University.
Relationships were probably the biggest part and that’s why I really enjoyed it, and
I’d go back for sure.
