Today Auckland hosts four Waitangi Day celebrations.
Oriini Tipene-Leach was amongst it.
The crowds all showed up at Sir Barry Curtis Park
to listen to the latest music.
Up-and-coming performers were applauded.
We were invited by the music programme,
Pao Pao Pao,
to perform with established artists.
It was pretty daunting at first,
but then it was all good.
Even singers who've already made it were there,
such as Majic Paora.
We're all very happy,
I was like a mum having a cry
at the side of the stage today!
But the topic of the day was never far from peoples' thoughts.
The signing of the Treaty
and our sovereignty.
That's what's important to me.
It was the same in West Auckland.
This celebrates our community
in Waitakere.
It also celebrates
Hoani Waititi Marae.
And it commemorates Waitangi Day.
It's the first time such a big concert has been held
at Hoani Waititi Marae
to entertain the families
in West Auckland.
It's good to see our kids
participating in today's events,
the food, all those kinds of things.
Organisers say all their goals for the day were met -
to gather the community together.

Throughout the country, people are celebrating Waitangi Day.
Ngai Tahu held their celebrations in Dunedin
at Te Matarae o Otakou Marae,
not far from the site where Ngai Tahu chiefs signed the Treaty.
Porirua also had their own celebrations with food galore.
In Wellington, families gather at the harbour
to make boats out of recycled materials
and test them out on the water.
An enjoyable time had by all.
