Hi! My name is Shawna on behalf of Expert Village. I’m going to tell you a little
bit about how to prepare your waistband casing for sewing. A lot fabric you’ll be able
to press, so we’re going to practice with 100% cotton—it’s a woven fabric. Because
it’s woven, I want to make sure that I stay on those lines so that I don’t have a funny
line on my waistband. There are two different ways you can press this. You can just start
by pressing it down, and because I have an even spaced line, I can actually follow that
line and keep that straight. If I didn’t actually, I can measure down so that I have
an even waistband. At 100% cotton you can heat at a 7 or a high heat. You can use steam;
you can use starch. It just depends on the firmness you want of that. Then I would fold
it down again, or I can fold it down the width of my elastic and then again. This is just
like a normal casing that you would do to put elastic through. Again, I follow the same
mark, you press. If you know anything about sewing, pressing is almost one of the most
important things when it comes to sewing. When you press, you’re just dropping it
on top. Then I would have my straight seam. I could of course starch that if I wanted
to. That may help you to keep it tight when you’re stretching the elastic to it.
