Microchipping is the most common form of identification used for reuniting lost cats and dogs with
their owners. The microchip itself is a tiny device that
is implanted between the shoulder blades of your pet. Microchips are supplied to vets
and animal welfare organisations in sterilized syringes. Each microchip has a unique number
that is then registered on a national database along with the owner’s details. First of
all the vet checks for any existing microchip in the animal. The chip is then tested in
the syringe before the implantation. As you can see the procedure itself is quick
and painless and does not require your pet to be sedated. After the implantation you
will complete a registration document so that your contact details can be found on the national
database.
