Hello friends, I'm Joel Anderson, Chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Like each of you I'm proud of UALR and its many achievements.
Some of the most recent achievements include:
1. Recognition by U.S. News and World Report for our business, engineering, and law programs.
2. Great success in our comprehensive fundraising campaign, providing more scholarships for
students.
3. Trojan student-athletes have won four conference championships in men and women's basketball,
baseball, and men's cross country. UALR was one of only 12 NCAA Division One institutions
across the country with their baseball, women's basketball, and men's basketball teams qualifying
for the NCAA post-season tournaments last spring.
4. UALR became the first institution in Arkansas to receive the Carnegie Foundation Community
Engagement Classification, recognizing our extensive and significant record in working
directly with our community.
5. UALR was the only university besides Harvard to have two teams compete in the finals of
the Microsoft Imagine Cup.
These examples justify the pride felt by faculty and staff as we continue to educate and serve
13,000 students.
When you visit campus, you will see the most ambitious campus building program in our university's
history: -a convenient one-stop center for student
services adjacent to the Donaghey Student Center
-a nanotechnology research building -a new outdoor track and field and intramural
facility -and more student housing this fall passing
the 1,000 mark for students living on campus and creating a vibrant campus community.
As a member of the Alumni Association, you can play an important role in this growth for
just $30 a year.
Testimonial: As a UALR Alumni Association member, you get
to enjoy a wide array of benefits in areas such as career development (resume writing,
and mock job interviews), merchant discounts, and various university resources from use
of the Donaghey Student Center
to UALR e-mail accounts.
Alumni membership does have its privileges!
Testimonial: But through your membership, you give back
much more. Whether it's scholarships, student awards, legislative advocacy, or hosting fun
events like the fall's biggest cookout during the first week of classes for alumni, students,
and faculty.
The Alumni Association exists to support the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Involvement comes in many different forms. The Alumni Association is here to help you
find your area of interest.
I encourage you to make your connection to the Alumni Association during its Campaign
for 3,500 members. If you are already a member, THANK YOU! I hope you will attend or volunteer
at one of our special events this year. I look forward to seeing you soon!
