This place is called the Castle Grayskull.
And this is not a place... It used to be a boardinghouse.
The owner of the boardinghouse died, passed away. An old man.
The men killed him.
So the old man died and left it for us, living in the streets.
The removal at the Cracolândia.
They are forced to move somewhere else.
And anywhere they try to go in the central area of the city
there is physical violence, with moral action, for them to get out.
They can't sleep anywhere.
Everybody was sleeping at the Princesa Isabel square.
Very early in the morning, the cops arrived and moved everybody out.
We went to another square down there, and they moved everybody out.
We come here, and they move us out. So...
Actually, neither the Cracolândia nor the other places in the center of São Paulo
have room for the people who live in the streets to stay.
For the police, the main goal is to stop the traffic and the use of narcotics,
and to diminish the robberies and thefts in the area of the Nova Luz.
So the policing was intensified and the action is in partnership with other organizations.
They must remove the dealers, that's fine... But not the users and those living in the streets.
I survive here in the Cracolândia,
but I look after my daughter, and I beg for alms so I can take care of her.
And that's how we survive. It will be two years now.
But I don't smoke crack, I smoke pot. So that's all fine by me.
It is even better, for our safety.
For about 8 months, this was like hell, you know?
Now, I swear to God, last night I slept in peace, I got up in peace,
and I‚'m here thanking God. Looking at God and thanking for what they've done.
For the cleaning they did in front of my door.
The operation was great. I just hope it will continue
and stay just like that forever, free.
What will determine the duration of the policing here will be the circumstances.
If in two, three months, the problem is solved,
in two, three months the operation ends.
If the problem lasts longer, the operation will last longer.
They will try until their last resource to use the drug.
That's expected.
What can not happen again is the agglomeration.
It's clear that what is happening here is a problem.
But it's not a matter for the police.
This should be just as clear.
It is a social, broad, complex problem, but it isn't a problem for the police.
And, persistently, the government still tries
to solve the problem with the police arriving there first.
